Abstract
The stems of sunflowers are dwarfed and stiffened by application, to the plants or the soil in which they are seeded, of a pyrazolium salt of formula (I) or (II) (where R1 and R2 are 1-3C alkyl, or phenyl R4 is H, OH, 1-18C alkyl, 1-3C haloalkyl, 1-4C alkoxy, 2-4C alkenyl, haloalkenyl or alkynyl, benzyl, cyclohexylmethyl, COOCH3, -CH2COOC2H5, -OP(O)(OC2H5), halo, nitro, or where R7 and R8 is H, halogen or NO2 R3 and R5 is 1-12C alkyl, 1-6C alkoxy, 3-6C cycloalkyl, 3-6C cycloalkylthio, halo, NH2, (CH3)2N-, C6H5NH-, C6H5O-, C6H5S-, U,V and W is H, halogen, 1-4C alkyl, 1-3C alkoxy, CN,NO2.CF3,CH3S-, CH3SO2-, CH3CONH- CH3OOC,C6H5 or C6H5O- R6 is (H)n or (CH3)n n is 0 or 1, m is 1,2 or 3 X is acetate, sulphate, hydroxide, hydrogen sulphate, methylsulphate, benzene sulphonate, 1-4C alkyl benzene sulphonate, 1-4C alkoxy benzene sulphonate, nitrate, phosphate, hydrogen phosphate, dihydrogen phosphate, carbonate, 1-12C alkane sulphonate, bromide, chloride or iodide.
