Abstract

The pile of a just-cut velvet is treated by directing at least a pressurized jet of air, gas, steam or mixtures thereof on the pile surface of a fabric 1, in such a way as to cause the jet to impinge on a narrow stripe of the fabric, transversely thereto, while causing the fabric to be moved under the jet. The fabric 1 is impregnated e.g. by water, in a tank 8 and then slides over the rigid surface of a fixed cylinder 9, a rounded-apex triangular-section member or a flat surface on which it is treated by the pressurized jets from nozzles 11 in a hollow member 10 adjustably mounted on brackets 14 mounted on slides 15 slidable on guides 16. Whilst passing over a rigid plate 21 the fabric may be brushed by a rotary brush 20.
