Abstract

A device for producing a textured effect in warp-knitted fabrics by varying the tension of the warp threads in a random manner during knitting comprises a series of closesett metallic discs on a revolving shaft, each having an eccentric pin projecting from one face of the disc. The position of the pins on neighbouring discs is randomly variable. The warp threads pass between the discs, those threads corresp. in position to the pins on the discs being alternately raised and lowered as the shaft rotates, giving variations in thread tension which produce intermittent variations in the surface character of the knitted fabric. The device is simple and reliable, and can be added to existing machines without difficulty. IT gives warp-knitted fabris a novel appearance, with random textured patterns of great variability, which can be simply altered in length, intensity and distribution.
