Abstract
In a process for fumigating an enclosed space in order to destroy pests such as insects, a mixt. of an active constituent and an activating agent are heated by an indirect heater, i.e. via a sepg. wall. The heat results in thermal decomposition of the activating agent to a gas and volatilisation of the active constituent, without combustion. The indirect heater pref. comprises an exothermic substance which produces heat on contact with water, partic. calcium oxide, or an exothermic substance which produces heat when exposed to air, partic. a mixt. of sodium, sulphide, iron carbide and carbon black. alternatively, the heater may be electrically powered, e.g. resistance wire element. The active constituent is pref. an insecticide or a fungicide and the activating agent is pref. azodicarbonamide.
