Abstract
The spacer consists of a web grid (31, 32) which is made from a material that is favourable from the point of view of neutronics, and of resilient bearing elements (6, 7) made from Inconel. Said bearing elements are inserted into the spaces formed by the rigid bearing knobs (41-44), and are latched tight there. The rigid bearing knobs prevent excessive deformation of the resilient bearing elements and serve, at the same time, to ensure the minimum distances between the fuel rods in the event of strong lateral forces such as, e.g. earthquakes.
