Abstract

Bulk particulate water insoluble material is conveyed over a filter screen K, and a spray nozzle W is reciprocated below the filter screen so that a curtain of water sweeps substantially the whole lower face of the filter screen. The spray nozzle is preferably in the form of a U- shaped pipe F whose base is positioned transversely below the filter screen and whose legs extend upwardly to longitudinal guide rails R and S supported above either side of the filter screen. The filter screen K may comprise a strip of cloth which overlies a metal mesh I and is carried at each end by a driven roller L.
