Abstract

A method of conditioning soil by fixing its particles in small, workable agglomerates that involves inoculating the soil with flocculator-producing algae, keeping inoculated nitrogen, other nutrients, and moisture available in sufficient quantities in the soil so that the algae continue to multiply in the soil for a period of time until a predetermined population density is reached, and then maintain non-limiting plant nutrients in the inoculated soil in amounts that are not limiting so that the algae continue to grow in a nitrogen deficient state in which compounds are produced that agglomerate the soil.
