A reversible, constant-gear, variable-speed pinion transmission, particularly for vehicles, comprising: a. one input shaft (14) b. a first pinion (34) fixed to said input shaft; c. a first axis (24) or (154) that is located in a common plane with said input axis; d. a second pinion (36) mounted for rotation on said first axle and operably connected with said first pinion; e. a second axis (18) or (134) axially aligned with said input axis; F. first clutch means (38) for connecting said input shaft to said second shaft; g. second clutch means (50) for connecting said second pinion to said first shaft for joint rotation therewith; h. a third pinion (52) fixed to said second axis; i. a fourth pinion (54) attached to said first axle and in engagement with said third pinion; j. a third axis 26, 152 axially aligned with one of said first and second axes; k. third clutch means (58) for connecting said third axle with one of said first and second axles; l. a fifth pinion (62) mounted for rotation on said third axis; m. fourth clutch means (64) for connecting said fifth pinion to said third axle; n. a sixth pinion (66) attached to said third axle; or. an output shaft (16) or (92, 116) or (122 or 132); and p. means for operably connecting said output shaft with the least said sixth (66) sprockets, all said shafts being located in a common plane.
