Abstract
An apparatus for composting to waste materials, comprising an elongated low-height silo capable of accommodating a bed of material being composted, the apparatus having an inlet end for material to be composted and a discharge end in which the material converted to compost is discharged from the apparatus, in which apparatus stirring means are arranged as a worm screw in order to stir the bed of compost material, said stirring means being arranged to move within of the compost material from said feed end to said discharge end and being arranged to cooperate with means located above the bed in order to allow said agitating means to be moved to treat the compost material in any section of the bed characterized by being able to pivot around a horizontal axis above the milk or and means are provided to rotate the stirring means in a worm gear around said axis to place them above the bed for return movement in the opposite direction to the direction of movement in the bed and to place said stirring means inside the bed at a variable angle of inclination backwards with respect to its direction of movement in the bed.
