Abstract

A microprogram control system for use in controlling the flow of data in a data processing system, comprising a plurality of associative, cyclically operating state memories, which are arranged during each operating cycle to read data that, at least in part, are interpreted by the data stream as electrical control signals, and a sequence memory, which operates synchronously with status memories, and hold sequence control words, comprising as many fields control as state memories are, in which data read from each state memory is selected by an associative search operation that has a search argument that comprises at least part of the data read from the state memory during the preceding cycle and the content of a particular control field for the status memory, of a control word read from the memory of sequence control.
