Abstract
Method for preparing a catalyst for residual oil hydrodesulfurization, which comprises formulating or composing a support material with the precursor of at least one catalytically active metallic component chosen from each of groups VIB and VIII of the Periodic Table of the Elements, said precursor being in the form of one or more thermally decomposable compounds, containing one or more of said chosen metals; subjecting the resulting composite body, if desired, after first drying it, to a first calcination for at least 0.5 hours, in an oxidizing atmosphere containing more than 20% by volume of water vapor, at a temperature between approximately 260ºC and approximately 371ºC; and then subjecting the composite body to a second calcination for a period of from about 1 to about 4 hours, in a substantially dry oxidizing atmosphere and at a temperature of between about 427ºC and about 649ºC.
