Abstract

A process for the dehydrogenation of a dehydrogenatable hydrocarbon comprising subjecting said hydrocarbon to contact, at elevated temperature and pressure, with a catalytic composition consisting of a metallic component of the platinum group, a rhenium component, an alkaline component selected from the metals alkali, alkaline earth metals and compounds thereof, and an alumina support material; and containing, on an elemental basis, from about 0.01 to about 1.0% by weight of platinum group metal, from about 0.01 to about 1.0% by weight of rhenium, and from about 0, 01 to about 5.0% by weight of alkaline component; and recovering an effluent containing the resulting dehydrogenated hydrocarbons.
