Abstract

A radio telephone system in which mobile stations are called using sequences of frequencies or tones, employs at least three frequencies or tones on a single channel to designate the numbers of wanted mobiles, each mobile being designated by a sequence employing two frequencies or tones only. As described the base station which is connected to a wired exchange uses a single calling channel and ten modulation frequencies. The code for each mobile comprises two modulation frequencies transmitted in a characteristic sequence i.e. in start-stop form. Each mobile need only be able to detect those modulation frequencies by which it is designated and to recognize its characteristic sequence. The mobiles are arranged to transmit this sequence to answer or originate a call.
