Improvements in electric power supply systems, characterized in that the system comprises, in combination, a pair of supply conductors, the voltage between which must be kept substantially constant, a permanent magnet alternator having a winding with a connected end to one of the supply conductors and its other end connected to the other supply conductor through a diode, a semiconductor switch controlled by gate connected through said winding, and voltage sensing means connected through the supply conductors and which serve to supply gate current to said switch when the voltage between the supply conductors exceeds a predetermined value.
