Abstract

Novel polyfluoroalkyl thiocyanates of the formula where C n F 2n+1 represents a straight or branched perfluoroalkyl chain, n being an integer from 1-20, and a being an integer from 2 to 20, are obtained by reacting a halide of formula C n F 2n+1 (CH 2 ) a Y in which Y is Cl, Br or I, with a thiocyanate of the formula M(SCN) b in which M represents H, NB 4 or a metal of Group IA, IB, IIB or VIII of the Periodic Table, or Al or Pb, and b is a number equal to the valency of M, at a temperature in the range 0-250 C.
