Abstract

A gas-shield arc welding torch using non-consumable electrodes 20 comprises a tubular casing 1 enclosing a clamping member 9, 10 for holding a plurality of non-consumable electrodes 20 between its jaws. The clamping member 9, 10, a centring bush 7 and a further bush 8 are removably mounted in the insulating casing by means of a bayonet connection. The bayonet connection is formed by pins 19 on clamping member 9, a co-operating fixed member 6 and a spring-biased sleeve 5 which bears against clamping member 9. Gas passages 21 are provided in member 9 and a filter 12 is held in place by a threaded nozzle 11. The casing 1 has shoulders on its outer surface whereby it may be precisely located relative to a workpiece. When used to make a plurality of spaced welded connections to one or more workpieces (e.g. to make the electrical connections between a relay and its plug-in base), the electrodes are arranged to overlie the desired welding points and the welding points are connected in succession by a time switch to act as welding counter electrodes. The electrodes have a coating of thorium dioxide.
