Abstract

A transport container comprises side walls bonded by a top stiffener 5, a bottom stiffener 2 and two end wall corner posts 11 and a loading aperture which is partly closed by a sliding door 13, and which extends the full length of a side wall. The top and bottom stiffeners adjacent the loading aperture are formed into guide rails 16, 17 respectively along which the sliding door 13 is guided. The sliding door 13 moves freely from one end of the loading aperture to the other. The sliding door 13 is provided with guide members which cooperates with the upper guide rail 16 and the lower guide Tail 17 to keep the rails parallel when they are subjected to loading stresses. In the construction shown the upper guide members comprise guide rollers 26 which run in a guideway 21 of the upper guide rail and the lower guide member comprises a guide rail 31 which forms part of two supporting runners 29 of the sliding door. An additional guide bracket may be provided to co-operate with the lower guide rail (Figs. 6, 6a, not shown). A second door 14 of the embodiment is a sliding, swivel door. Other embodiments disclosed comprise a sliding door with two sliding, swivel doors (Figs. 12, 12a, not shown), one or two sliding doors with two container corner hinged swing doors (Figs. 14, 14a and Figs. 13, 13a respectively, not shown), and one sliding door with two folding doors (Figs. 16, 15a, not shown). The sliding swivel door 14 is mounted on a swivel rod 56 provided with swivel arms 55 which carry respectively a guide roll 57 and a roler carriage 58. The roller 57 and roller carriage 58 co-operate with the rails 16, 17 respectively. The doors 13, 14 are provided with looking devices 40 the device 40 for the 'sliding swivel door 14 being shown in Fig. 7. This device comprises a pair of opposed push rods 44, 45 which are urged in their respective directions by a handle 46 through a lever 42. The push rod 45 has a bolt 50 which, in the locked position, enters a slot in the guide rail 17 and also bears against the running rail 27 thereof to lift the door upwardly. This upward lift brings a catch 52 welded to the door into frictional engagement with the guide rail 17 to clamp the door against transverse and vertical movement. The push rod 44 is provided with a pressure member 49 which has a wedging action with the upper guide rail 16 to urge a catch 48 of the door into frictional engagement with the upper rail to again clamp the door (Fig. 8, not shown). Part of the member 49 co-operates with a pair of stops 23a to prevent opening movement of the door. The device 40 for the sliding door 13 is as the abovementioned device 40 except that the pressure member 49 is omitted and an angled bolt is provided which, in the locked position, passes behind the guide rail between stops formed thereon.
