Abstract

Envelope blanks are transferred from a feed roller 2 on which they are held by suction to a drum 1 which holds the leading edges by suction through a row of perforations 201 on the end of five arms 19 rotating with the drum. Also rotating with the drum are five pairs of folding rollers 12, 13 each having a row of suction perforations 121, 131 normally directed outwardly of the drum. At portion B, suction is applied to the roller 13 to hold a blank at the fold line of the flap and released from the perforations 201, and thereafter a stationary cam 30 cams a 90 degree rotation of the rollers to fold the flap therebetween. Suction applied to perforations 31 in a deflecting roller 3 carries the front edge away from the drum. Suction is now applied to the roller 12 and released from rollers 13, 3, so that on further rotation of the drum the middle of the blank is moved rearwardly over the flap. The rollers 12, 13 now rotate in the reverse direction to eject the fold, the envelope being held by the perforations 121 until arrival at a discharge roller 4 which takes it over by suction perforations 41.
