Abstract
A thermographic material comprises a layer containing (i) N, N1 - dinitroso-N-phenyl - N - cyclo-hexyl-p-phenylenediamine (ii) an aromatic azo coupler and (iii) an aromatic amine capable of forming an azo dye and a polymeric binder. Specified couplers are those of Naphthol AS series and 2, 3-dihydroxynaphthalene whereas o-dianisidine and 41 -amino-61 -methyl-m-benzanisidide are specified as the aromatic amines forming azo dyes. The heat sensitive layer may also contain a pigment such as silica titanium dioxide or zinc oxide and a reducing agent, e.g. hydroxylammonium chloride. In the examples the dinitrose compound with a binder and pigments is ground and then mixed with a ground mixture of the coupler, Fast Blue B base or Fast Violet B base, pigments and binder and coated on a support on imagewise exposure, e.g. to a heated stylus, a coloured azo dye image is produced. To prevent clogging of the stylus, a wax such as polyvinyl ether of octadecyl alcohol is added to the heat sensitive layer.
