Abstract
Clay paper for pressure sensitive copying is prepared by applying to a paper suport a clay together with a water dispersible synthetic latex as a binder for the clay, an acrylic acid ester copolymer emulsion being used as the latex or as a component of the latex. The acrylic acid ester may be copolymerised with another acrylic acid ester, vinyl ester, e.g. vinyl acetate, styrene, butadiene, vinyl chloride, vinylidene chloride, butadiene-styrene, acrylonitrile or acrylonitrilebutadiene. The synthetic latex may also contain at least one of the following:-a styrenebutadiene latex, a styrene butadiene latexcasein, and a styrene butadiene latex-starch. The amount of acrylic acid ester copolymer emulsion is preferably 10-40% by weight of clay. The clay may be acid clay, active clay or attapulgite. The acrylic acid esters are preferably the C 1 -C 4 alkyl esters of acrylic acid.
