Abstract
A method of making a rotary cutting, scoring, creasing or perforating die comprises making radial incisions 11 in a curved base-plate 10 carried by a cylinder, and then inserting into the incisions a steel cutting &c. rule 12 having a serrated rear edge. As shown, the insertion of the rule has been effected as far as the point 13. The incisions may be made by a saw or by heat treatment of the base-plate. Insertion of the rule may be effected by driving in, pressing in or by rolling. After insertion of the rule, the gaps remaining between the teeth and the cutting rule may be closed by heat treatment of the base-plate or by means of adhesive. The cutting rule may, alternatively or additionally, be coated with adhesive before or during insertion. If the teeth of the cutting rule are provided with barbs, these are sufficient to hold the rule to the base-plate. The base-plate may consist of a metal e.g. aluminium, brass or steel, a thermoplastic material e.g. hard PVC or a thermosetting plastics material.
