Abstract

Fibres (specifically of cellulose and for use as cigarette filters) are treated with a plasticising agent by being conveyed horizontally as a sheet of fibres and passing over an atomising rotor 15 on a vertical shaft 16. The shape of the rotor is such that atomised liquid is flung off with both an outward and an upward component of movement. The sheet of fibres (not shown) enters slot 8 and leaves a similar slot, air curtains being provided to prevent egress os spray carboxy methylcellulose with finely divided carbon or a plasticising agent with carbon or aromatic granules may be used to prepare the filter material.
