Abstract

A method of making wheel hubs comprises forging a member 1 having a collar 1b and a tube portion 1a stamping a second collar 2, machining and trueing the forged member 1, and fitting and securing the stamped collar thereto. When making a bicycle wheel hub, machining and trueing the member 1 includes forming a passage 1d for a wheel shaft, a housing 1e for an anti-friction bearing, a reduced diameter portion 1f and a threaded portion 1g for looking in position a freewheel or pinion. The stamped collar 2 is formed with a bearing recess 2a for an anti-friction bearing and an aperture 2b corresponding in diameter to that of the portion 1f, either or both of which may be grooved. The collar 2 is secured on the portion 1f by crimping, Fig. 3 (not shown), after spoke holes 2c have been drilled in its outer flange.
