Abstract
A method of welding and hence electrically connecting bare conductor 14 to a conductor 11 covered by insulation 12 comprises the steps of placing the bare conductor in contact with the insulation and in parallel overlapping relationship with the conductor 11, placing two closely - spaced parallel electrodes 16 of a resistance welder in contact with the surface of conductor 14 opposite to that in contact with the insulation, applying an electrical pulse to the electrodes to cause current flow through that portion of the bare conductor between the electrodes, whereby the insulation between a portion of the bare conductor and the underlying portion of the insulated conductor melts, urging the two conductors into contact, and welding the conductors together by passage of a second pulse. The insulated conductor may be a thin ribbon or flat cable, and may have a conductivity higher than that of the bare conductor. The conductor 11 may be an alloy containing a high percentage of copper. The pulses may be of equal magnitude and duration, e.g. 1 volt constant for 40 milliseconds. The tips of the electrodes are formed with V-shaped recesses.
