Abstract
Novel acrylic acid derivatives having the formula wherein R is an alkyl group containing at least 2 carbon atoms R 1 and R 2 , which may be the same or different, are each a phenyl group or a phenyl group substituted by at least one alkyl or alkoxy group R 3 and R 4 , which may be the same or different, are each an alkyl group or, together with the adjacent nitrogen atom form a 6-membered heterocyclic group and n is 2 or 3 and non-toxic acid addition salts thereof are prepared by reaction of an acrylic acid derivative having the formula R 1 R 2 C= CRCOOH or a salt thereof with an amine of the formula Hal.(CH 2 ) n -NR 3 R 4 , wherein Hal is a halogen atom, or an acid addition salt thereof, followed by optional conversion to a non-toxic acid addition salt of the product. Pharmaceutical compositions having antiphlogistic activity comprise at least one acrylic acid derivative of the first formula above or non-toxic acid addition salt thereof together with a pharmaceutical carrier or excipient.
