Abstract

A method for transversally cutting sections of spring assemblies, of the type consisting of a series of strips of wire springs that are arranged side by side, and a series of helical wires parallel to each other, extended transversely with respect to the strips and connected thereto, the length of the set of springs having two parallel main faces formed by the edge faces of the strips; the helical wires are spaced apart throughout the assembly, and the successive helical wires, along the spring strips, are arranged on alternating main faces of the spring assemblies; each strip of wire springs comprises a section of curved elastic wire to form at the same time a series of helical springs arranged side by side in a row, and a series of connectors each of which serves to interconnect two adjacent springs in the row, extending longitudinally with respect thereto and located on an edge face thereof; the connectors extend between successive helical wires on each edge face; characterized by the following steps, taken not precisely in the order indicated below, to suppress one of the helical wires of a main face of the assembly; elongating said connectors on the other main face located opposite the site where the helical wire is suppressed, bending the wires adjacent said connectors; cutting each of these connectors at a point directly opposite the site from which the helical wire has been removed, and bending the wire on each side of the cutting point, to form a coupling clamp, transverse to the strip to which they are connected integrally, and directly opposite the site where the helical wire is removed.
