Abstract

Candies are formed from strand material 13 fed into the spaces formed between two recessed rings A, B, the inside ring A being eccentrically mounted so that a series of contracting and expanding apertures are formed as the rings rotate. Two sets of opposed pistons or stamps act on the formed candies to transfer them to apertures in an adjacent disc where they are further shaped or stamped before ejection by one of the stamps. Sequential axial movement is controlled by fixed cams on the outside of the driven elements and the stamps transmit the drive to the idly-mounted moulding rings and the shaping disc. In other modifications designed to eliminate the frictional wear produced by the transmission through the stamps, the two driving drums are interconnected through a crown wheel and pinions, one of which is eccentrically mounted. The eccentricity is adjustable.
