Abstract
Procedure for the preparation of new tetrahydroisoquinoline derivatives of the formulas **(See formula)** wherein A represents a lower alkylene, lower hydroxy-alkylene, or lower oxo-alkylene radical, R1 represents a lower alkyl radical, R2 represents a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl radical, and R3 represents a halogen atom, and its non-toxic addition salts and quaternary ammonium compounds, characterized in that a compound of the formula is reacted under the Mannich reaction conditions: **(See formula)** (where R1 and R2 are as defined herein above) with formaldehyde and a ketone of the formula: **(See formula)** (where R4 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having no more than 3 carbon atoms, and R3 is as defined herein above), to form a compound of the formula: **(See formula)** (in which the various symbols are as defined herein above) and optionally reducing the carbonyl group in the product obtained to the group -CH2- or -CHOH- by known methods for such reactions.
