Abstract
In a diesel engine having two cooling circuits, e.g. one 18 for engine cooling and the other 17 for cooling charge air and lubricating oil, thermostats 15, 16, in each circuit conjointly control the fans 9, 11, associated with the radiators 20, 201, 26, 261, 27, 29. The engine circuit 18 comprises a pump 22 supplying cooling water to the block, the return pipe 18 leading to radiators 20, 201 connected to the pump return 21. The second cooling circuit 17 includes a pump 31 supplying cooling water to the charge cooler 32 and lubricant cooler 25 from which return pipe 17 leads to radiator 26 in series with radiators 261, 27, 29. The radiators are arranged in two banks I, II, as shown. The fans 9, 11 are driven hydraulically and put into or out of operation by the thermostats 15, 16.
