Abstract
An oscillatable lawn sprinkler comprises a housing 1 having a slotted cover 4 and containing a sprinkler head 13 mounted on a water-feed tube 12 oscillatably driven by a motor 9. The latter is of the "fluid" type, the motive force of which derives from the water being fed to the head through the tube 12. The head 13 is in the form of a water-receiving chamber 15 having an inwardly curved upper wall 16 formed with two series of upwardly projecting nozzles 18 helically disposed relative to the axis of curvature of the wall. The housing cover 4 is so shaped that a slot 20 formed therein is in longitudinal section, as shown in Fig. 4, with inclined end walls 21 and an arcuate centre portion, both side walls of the slot being upwardly diverging in parts as shown by the shaded areas for one side wall in Fig. 2. In operation, water from the motor 9 passes into the chamber 15 through a slot 14 in the underside of the tube 12 from whence it emerges as jets from the nozzles 18 in the associated direction B, Fig. 3, each jet intersecting an imaginary line A, Figs. 3 and 4. The area water by the sprinkler is thus rectangular the length of the rectangle being determined by the angle of oscillation of the head 13.
