Abstract
A disc brake bracket 12, Fig. 1 (not shown), is formed by shearing and folding, or stamping, two sheet-metal blanks to form two limbs or halves 18, 20, reinforcing plates 32 are secured thereto by spot welding and nuts 28 are pressfitted into holes in one of the limbs. The axially turned ends of the two limbs are then secured together by edge-to-edge welding, a thin metal strip being positioned thereunder to prevent the welding material from dripping out. Instead of the reinforcing plates the edges of the limbs may be reinforced by crushing lugs 40 on the limbs by a tool 42, the limb 18 and tool being connected across a high current source E to soften the metal of the lug during crushing.
