Process for the preparation of new 1,4-benzodioxane compounds of the general formula I ** (See formula) ** in which NR1R2 means the amino group or a mono- or bi-substituted aliphatic or heterocyclic amino group, R means hydrogen or a lower alkyl radical, Y means hydrogen, a halogen atom, a hydroxyl group, a lower alkyl group or a lower alkoxy group and n is 1,2,3,4 or 5, as well as its non-toxic salts with inorganic or organic acids, characterized in that a nitrile of the general formula II ** (See formula) ** in which R, Y and n have the meaning already expressed, is reduced catalytically or chemically to an amine of the general formula III ** (See formula) ** wherein R, Y and n have the meaning already expressed, and, if desired, the free amino group, -NH2, is converted in a manner already known per se to a substituted amino group, -NR1R2, and likewise, if desired, the compound obtained, of the general formula I, is converted into a salt with an inorganic or organic acid.
