A compressor device for fluid, comprising: a rotor that can rotate about a central axis; means forming a generally oval concentric cylinder with said rotor to create a pair of compression chambers on opposite sides of said rotor and bounded by the rotor and said cylinder; means forming an inlet for fluid to each of said chambers; means forming an outlet for fluid from each of said chambers, and a plurality of pairs of vanes disposed substantially symmetrically and substantially radially movable in said rotor to compress said fluid between said inlet and said outlet in each chamber, having the cylinder an outline in cross section to said axis that substantially satisfies the equation: r = A sen2 θ + r1 where r = the radius of the contour measured from that axis, θ = the angular displacement around said axis measured from the smaller diameter of said cylinder, r1 = half the smaller diameter of said cylinder, and A = the length of the part of a blade that extends from said rotor to its maximum extent.
