ANTECEDENTES DE LA INVENCIONBACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The importance of being able to evaluate a person's masticatory system, especially in clinical settings, is currently known. The state of the masticatory system is determined primarily by the number and position of the teeth of the person performing the masticatory function. In this way, different degrees of anomalies in the masticatory system are observed, being especially serious for the elderly.

The state of the masticatory system can be subjectively evaluated by the self-evaluation carried out by the person performing the masticatory function, or objectively by scientific or scientific studies.

The detection of anomalies in the masticatory system is obtained subjectively by conducting interviews with questions about their chewing capacity, that is, the ability of a person to grind or crush a food after a predetermined number of repetitions.

The subjective evaluation of the masticatory performance includes psychological factors that influence the answer to the questions, and therefore do not represent the actual masticatory performance.

3030

Es habitual el uso de alimentos naturales, tales como cacahuetes,On the other hand, a wide variety of objective methods for detecting anomalies in the masticatory system are also currently known. Most of these methods verify the degree of decomposition, or fragmentation of a food by sieving, or by optical scanning. The use of natural foods, such as peanuts, is common,

almendras y zanahorias o de materiales sinteticos como el Optosil® de Bayer Dental®.almonds and carrots or synthetic materials such as Optosil® from Bayer Dental®.

It should be noted that the use of synthetic materials usually presents problems in certain people, who are not accustomed to this new texture in a non-usual way to perform the masticatory function.

In any case, both natural foods and synthetic materials must be fragmented by the person and the size of said fragmentation must be quantified, to calculate the person's masticatory performance and therefore detect anomalies in their masticatory system.

More specifically, one of the most common problems using screening techniques is that natural foods dissolve in saliva. Thus, sifting a chewed natural food becomes a complicated and lengthy procedure, and can lead to errors in the detection of anomalies in the chewing system due to such dissolution of the food.

In the case of optical scanning, automatic scanning methods of synthetic materials with two colors such as paraffin are known, where said material once it has been chewed 20 allows to obtain an image in which the pixels are counted, by means of an informatic program, of each colour. This procedure requires high resolution photo cameras and complicated mathematical equations performed by expensive electronic devices that are difficult to implement in a clinical environment.

De este modo, la evaluacion del rendimiento masticatorio depende de la perception visual de la persona que realice la clasificacion.25 Finally, an evaluation method is also known that consists of making a visual estimation of a chewing gum previously and classifying it according to a series of questions within the Likert scale composed of 5 response levels. Thus, the evaluation of the masticatory performance depends on the visual perception of the person making the classification.
