Abstract

Compounds of the general formula <FORM:0881488/IV (b)/1> (wherein X represents a halogen atom and Y a disubstituted amino group) are isomerized by treating an isomer (or a mixture of isomers containing one isomer in excess of the other) of such a compound with a strong basic agent in a polar solvent in the presence of an organic base corresponding to the disubstituted amino group. The product is a mixture of isomers in approximately equal proportions, from which one isomer may be separated and the other again subjected to the isomerization process.
