Abstract

<PICT:0943547/C1/1> <PICT:0943547/C1/2> <PICT:0943547/C1/3> <PICT:0943547/C1/4> When producing hollow glass articles a ribbon of glass 9, Fig. 1, fed through an elongated aperture is cut into portions by a mechanism 11 and successive portions received, as shown in Fig. 5, in carriers 15 moving under the aperture 6 in the direction of its smaller dimension, each carrier having a central aperture 23 through which the article is blown. The glass cutting blades may be shaped as shown in plan in Fig. 9 and have serrated edges 30. The glass container 1 has a vertically movable pin 4 concentric with a rotatable tube 5. In the blowing apparatus shown in Fig. 12 the charge of glass is held in the carrier 15 by a frame 40 with a downwardly projecting rim 47, the carrier 15 being located in an aperture in a rotatable ring 45. The glass depending through the aperture 23 is trapped by a vertically movable hollow mandrel 48 through which it is also blown, as at 36, being reheated as necessary. A movable cover may prevent the glass from depending through the aperture 23 until required.
