Abstract

Background of the invention

The present invention relates to a package, according to the preamble of claim 1, and an initial part for forming a package, according to the preamble of claim 10, respectively. From EP 240126 A2 a package is known to contain a series of articles, such as that defined in the preamble of claim 1, and an initial part to form a package, such as that defined in the preamble of claim 10 This document describes a package that incorporates a group of two-row walled containers and a panel structure. The panel structure comprises an upper panel that covers the upper parts of the containers, end panels foldably connected to the upper panel at opposite ends thereof and side panels that are connected to the upper panel through fixing bands. In the packaging, the fixing bands are coupled, on the lower faces thereof, with the walls of the containers. In the corners, laminar element structures are arranged by means of which the end panels and side panels are connected. The laminar element structures may comprise two laminar element panels foldably connected to each other (Figures 1 to 3) or a laminar element panel with a fixing tab cooperating with a fixing slot into which it is to be inserted ( Figures 4 to 6).

The present invention aims to provide an improved packaging of the generic type and an improved initial part of the generic type, respectively.

Characteristics of the invention.

The objective presented is achieved by means of a package, according to claim 1, and by an initial piece, according to claim 10, respectively. In addition, the method of forming a package according to claim 15 discloses a solution of the above objective.

In general, one aspect of the invention is generally directed to a package for retaining a series of containers. The packaging has a top panel and a side panel. The packaging has retention characteristics to retain the containers, and angled part characteristics to facilitate the formation of the packaging.

According to another aspect, the invention is generally directed to a package for containing a series of articles. The packaging comprises panels that extend, at least partially, around the interior of the packaging. The panels comprise an upper panel, a side panel foldably connected to the upper panel and an end panel foldably connected to the upper panel. At least one opening in the upper panel serves to receive, at least partially, at least a part of one of the articles. An angled panel is foldably connected to the side panel, and a second angled panel is foldably connected to the first angled panel and the end panel.

In another aspect, the invention is directed, in general, to an initial piece to form a package to contain a series of articles. The initial part comprises panels comprising an upper panel, a side panel foldably connected to the upper panel and an end panel foldably connected to the upper panel. In the upper panel there is at least one receptacle.

A first angled panel is foldably connected to the side panel, and a second angled panel is foldably connected to the first angled panel and the end panel.

In another aspect, the invention is directed, in general, to a method of forming a package. The method comprises arranging an initial part comprising an upper panel, a side panel foldably connected to the upper panel, an end panel foldably connected to the upper panel, a series of receptacles in the upper panel, a first angled panel connected foldably to the side panel, and a second angled panel foldably connected to the first angled panel and the end panel. The method further comprises placing a series of articles with respect to the initial piece, and placing the initial piece with respect to the articles, such that the series of articles are arranged, at least in part, in respective receptacles of the series of receptacles. The method further comprises folding down the end panel with respect to the upper panel to at least partially surround the articles in an interior space of the packaging, and fold down the side panel with respect to the upper panel to surround, at least partially, the items in the interior space of the packaging.

Detailed description of the embodiments

The present invention relates, in general, to constructions, covers, cardboard elements or the like, and to packages for containing and displaying containers such as jugs, bottles, cans, etc. The containers can be used to package food and beverage products, for example. The containers can be made of materials of suitable composition to pack the concrete food or beverage items, and the materials include, but are not limited to, plastics such as PET, LDPE, LLDPE, HDPE, PP, PS, PVC, EVOH and nylon; and the like; aluminum and / or other metals; glasses; or any combination thereof.

The packages, according to the present invention, can accommodate containers in many different ways. For illustrative purposes and not to limit the scope of the invention, the following detailed description describes beverage containers (eg, plastic containers), at least partially disposed within the embodiments of the packaging. In this description, the terms "lower", "lower", "upper" and "upper" indicate specific orientations in relation to fully assembled packages.

The present embodiments are directed to cardboard elements or packaging to engage with containers and accommodate them. Figure 1 is a plan view of an outer face -3- of an initial part -8- used to form the packaging or support -150-. The initial piece -8- has a longitudinal axis -L1- and a lateral axis -L2-. In the embodiment shown, the initial part -8- comprises six receptacles -12- formed by tabs -22- and -24-, which are connected to the upper panel -10- by respective folding lines -37-, -39-. The grooves -62- and -63- separate the tabs -22-, -24-, and the arched grooves -64- separate the folding lines -37-, -39-from the tabs. Preferably, the initial piece -8- is formed of cardboard, but it can be of any suitable material that has sufficient strength and flexibility to behave like cardboard. In each corner of the initial part -8-, between the respective side panels -40-, -50- and respective end panels -20-, -30-, they are located in a first and second angled panels -45-, - 47-. In the embodiment shown, the end panels -20-, -30- comprise a corner portion -49- foldably connected to the second angled panels -47- and connected to the end panels. The angled panels -45-, -47- and the corner panels -49- facilitate the formation of the packaging -150-, so that the packaging conforms to the shape of the containers -C-.

At each corner of the initial piece -8-, the first angled panel -45- is foldably connected to one of the side panels -40-, -50- in the fold line -53-, and the second panel angled -47- is foldably connected to the first angled panel, in a folding line -55-. The second angled panel is foldably connected to the corner portion -49- of the end panels -20-, -30- in the folding line -57-. The corner portion -49- is foldably connected to a respective end panel -20-, -30- in the folding line -59-. The first and second angled panels -45-, -47- and the corner part -49- could

The initial part -8- comprises two handle panels -84- foldably connected to the upper panel -10 by side folding panels -86-. In the embodiment shown, the handle panels -84- are further defined by curved cuts -87-, -89-, -91- in the upper panel. The initial part -8- could comprise handle characteristics different from the handle panels -84-, or the handle panels could be shaped, arranged and / or otherwise configured without departing from this invention.

As shown in figures 2 to 7, to form the packaging -150-, according to an acceptable method, the bottles -Ca pack are collected and, first, in the top panel -10- is pushed down on the upper parts of the bottles -C-. Packaging -150- can be formed by other stages of folding and positioning of panels. For example, Figures 5 and 6 show an alternative configuration for transforming the initial part -8- into the packaging -150-. As shown in Figure 5, the side panels -40-, -50- can be folded down in fold lines -41-, -51- with respect to the top panel -10-, in the direction of the arrow - A3-, before folding down the end panels -20-, -30-. As shown in Figure 6, the first angled panel -45- can be folded down in the direction of the arrow -A4- to aid in folding down the second angled panel -47- and the end panels - 20-, -30-. Glue or other adhesive can be applied to one or both angled panels -45-, -47 before folding down the end panels -20-, -30-. Each outer part -20a-, -30a- of the angled panels -20-, -30- has a respective curved edge -30c-, -20c-. In the embodiment of Figure 13, the initial part -408- includes holding handle features -184- in the upper panel. The initial parts, according to the present invention can be, for example, formed from coated cardboard and similar materials. For example, the inner and outer sides of the initial pieces may be coated with a clay coating. The clay coating can then be overprinted with images or product information, advertising, price codes and others. Then, the initial pieces can be coated with a varnish to protect any information printed on the initial piece. Also, the initial pieces can be coated, for example, with a vapor barrier layer, on one or both sides of the initial piece. According to the embodiments described above, the initial pieces can be constructed of cardboard of a caliber such that it is heavier and more rigid than ordinary paper. Likewise, the initial pieces can be constructed of other materials, such as cardboard, hard paper or any other material with suitable properties to allow the cardboard to behave, at least in general, as described herein. Also, the initial pieces can be laminated or coated with one or more sheet-type materials, in selected panels or panel sections.

According to the embodiments of the present invention described above, a folding line can be any form of substantially linear, but not necessarily straight, weakening that facilitates folding along it. More specifically, but without the intention of reducing the scope of the present invention, the folding lines comprise: a grooved line, such as lines formed with a blunt fiber-stripe knife, or the like, which creates a crushed part in the material a along the desired weakening line; a cut that extends partially in a material along the desired line of weakness, and / or a series of cuts that extend partially to, and / or completely through the material along the desired line of weakening; and various combinations of these characteristics.
