Abstract

Un receptor de televisión que comprende: una fuente de datos digitales que contiene una pluralidad de corrientes de datos, cada una de las cuales representa una, de una señal de televisión de definición normal y una señal de televisión de alta definición, y codificada de tal manera que pueda ser descodificada en resolución total para producir una imagen sustancialmente sin imperfecciones de descodificación visibles, o descodificada en resolución parcial para producir una imagen que incluya posiblemente imperfecciones de descodificación visibles; un descodificador (10) acoplado a la fuente de datos digitales, que tiene una anchura de banda máxima de descodificación menor que la requerida para descodificar simultáneamente dos señales de televisión de alta definición, en resolución total de descodificación; y un controlador (112) acoplado al descodificador, para seleccionar dos respectivas corrientes de las corrientes de datos, en respuesta a una entrada de usuario y, si ambas representan una señal de televisión de alta definición, solicitar la entrada de usuario para especificar una de las dos respectivas corrientes de datos a fin de descodificarla en resolución parcial.
