Abstract

Ceramic frit able to crystallise mullite in industrial heat treatment cycles, its production and applications.The ceramic frit has 60%-90% weight aluminium and silicon oxides, where the percentage of aluminium oxide is between 20% and 45%, and that of silicon oxide between 20% and 50%, and the Al2O3/SiO2 weight ratio is between 0.5 and 2 and 10%-40% weight of one or more additional oxides. The frit generates a crystalline mullite phase when used to coat ceramic supports which undergo heat treatment at 1,000-1,350 degrees C for 30-120 minutes. The frit can be used as a coating for ceramic surfacing, for forming glass ceramic plating and as an integral part of porcelain support compositions.< IMAGE >The mullite industrial hot cyclic firing crystallisation frit comprises a mixture of aluminum oxides and silicon oxides 60-90 and additional oxides 10-40 per cent by weight respectively. The aluminum oxide and silicon oxide percentages are 20-45 and 20-50. Process making the frit employs an alumina:silica weight ratio of 0.5-2. The mullite crystalline phase is generated on ceramic supports heat-treated at 1000-1350[deg]C for 30-120 minutes.
