EL COMPLEJO FORMADO A PARTIR DEL OXIDO DE NITROGENO Y EL QUELATO DEL METAL DE TRANSICION, Y/O EL QUELATO DEL METAL DE TRANSICION CONSUMIDO, SE REGENERA BIOLOGICAMENTE EN PRESENCIA DE UN DADOR DE ELECTRONES, SIENDO REDUCIDO EL OXIDO DE NITROGENO, A NITROGENO MOLECULAR. EL REACTOR BIOLOGICO, PUEDE COMBINARSE CON EL LAVADOR DE GASES. DICHO DADOR DE ELECTRONES ES, POR EJEMPLO, HIDROGENO O METANOL, PERO PUEDE SER TAMBIEN SULFITO, QUE SE ORIGINA A PARTIR DEL DIOXIDO DE AZUFRE PRESENTE EN EL GAS DE ESCAPE.
