Abstract

PURPOSE: To carryout length measuring scale connection by a simple means, by installing a flexible belt type scale carrier for translational scale division in a first mechanical element, and installing a measuring equipment of the scale in a second mechanical element. CONSTITUTION: The length A of a length reference body 5 can be obtained by a laser process measuring system in a specific stretching force. A belt type elastic scale carrier 2 having flexible translational scale is built in the machine stand of a first mechanical element, e.g. a machine tool, in such a manner that the preliminary stretching force is set and adjusted to be a specific value. A measuring equipment 4 for scaling is installed on the supporting stand of a second mechanical element 3, e.g. a machine tool, which can relatively move in the measuring and traveling direction 9 of the element 1. By a mark detecting means 8 of the equipment 4, an end mark 7 is made to pass in the scale direction 12 from a start mark 6 of the reference body 5, and the apparent length of the reference body 5 is displayed by a secondary signal of the scale between the marks 6 and 7 of the respective signals. The apparent length is made to coincide with the actual length A of the reference body 5 by adjusting the stretching force, and correction is performed.
