Abstract
Leather, hides and furs are conditioned, specially dried or moistened, by dielectric heating by at least one alternating electric field in a frequency range between 10 and 300 MHz. At the same time the material is exposed to a treatment pressure which is reduced below atmospheric pressure. - A vacuum-tight treatment chamber BK1 is joined to a vacuum system UA and encloses an endless conveyor bell AV1 for articles BG, such as leather, hides and furs, on its top strand. This is exposed to an electromagnetic alternating field between large-area plate electrodes which are connected to a high-frequency power generator HFG which operates in a range between 10 and 300 MHz. To reduce the temp. to below 50 deg.C., a vacuum of 0.6-0.7 bar is recommended for porous and lightweight leather, hides and furs, and 0.5-0.6 bar for heavier leather.
