Definitions
- the invention relates to a thermal insulating profile element with a hinge arrangement, in particular a door or window hinge arrangement, comprising at least two pivotally connected hinge members, wherein at least one of said hinge members has a mounting element with at least two mounting orifices and is attached to the thermal insulating profile element of a frame or sash via a screw mounting system including at least two mounting bolts passing through the mounting orifices in the mounting element and through the mounting orifices in the thermal insulating profile element, wherein the thermal insulating profile element has at least one metal first box profile and at least one metal second box profile connected via at least one thermal insulating element defining an inner thermal insulating space.
- European patent publication EP2636830 discloses a door hinge mounting arrangement comprising a screw mounting system having an end counter plate contacting the outer surface of the hollow profile, a sleeve connecting element attached to the end plate having a threaded through hole adapted to engage a mounting bolt through a flat mounting portion of the hinge member.
- Similar arrangements are also disclosed in the publications DE29922023 , DE 20 2018 101497 U1 , DE 27 00 100 A1 , EP 1 223 274 A2 and DE202007003675 .
- the invention provides a thermal insulating profile element with a hinge arrangement according to claim 1.
- the screw mounting system allows for quick mounting of the hinge arrangement.
- the plastic locking sleeves prevent deformation of the thermal insulating profile elements while the mounting screws are screwed into the rivet nuts to secure the mounting element of the hinge member.
- the metal mounting bolts can therefore be elements that are thermally insulated from other metal elements.
- said two locking sleeves are paired via a locking plate constituting said torque locking means to form a unitary stiffening member.
- said locking plate is screwed to the profile element from its axially inner side by means of mounting screws.
- Fig. 1 shows one of the several hinge arrangements 1, which in this embodiment serve to hinge the multi-chamber thermal insulating profile elements 3 of the sash 5, not shown, of the external office door in the multi-chamber thermal insulating profile elements 3 of the frame 4.
- sashes 5, not shown uniform or multi-chamber glazing units, panes or elements made of toughened glass, plastic, wood, etc., can be embedded.
- the figure shows the hinge arrangement 1 in the open position.
- the shown hinge arrangement 1 comprises two hinge members 2a attached to the longitudinal profile member 3 of the frame 4 and articulated to the hinge member 2b attached to the profile member 3 of the sash 5.
- the profile element 3 of the frame 4 consists of a first aluminium box profile 31a and a second aluminium box profile 32a, which are connected by two longitudinal shaped thermal insulating ribs 33a made of polyamide PA66 with 50% fiberglass addition.
- the insulating ribs 33a define an inner thermal insulating space 34a therebetween.
- the profile element 3 of the sash 5 in this embodiment has an analogous structure defined by a first aluminium box profile 31b, a second aluminium box profile 32b, connected by thermal insulating ribs 33b.
- the low thermal conductivity (less than 0.1 W/(m K)) of the thermal insulating ribs 33 ensures thermal separation of the box profiles 31, 32 (whose thermal conductivity is about 200 W/(m K)) in the area of the inner thermal insulating space 34. As a result, the overall thermal resistance of the profile elements 3 is relatively high.
- Each of the hinge members 2a, 2b has a metal shaped hinge clamp 21 and a flat mounting element 22 with orifices 23 and is attached to the respective thermal insulating profile element 3 via a screw mounting system 7.
- the hinge clamps 21 of the hinge members 2a of the frame 4 include a hinge roller 8 clamped therebetween, and the hinge clamp 21 of the hinge member 2b of the sash 5 includes a hinge roller 8 rotatably positioned between the clamps 21 of the hinge members 2a of the frame 4.
- Fig. 2 illustrates the hinge arrangement 1 without the profile elements 3.
- the hinge members 2a of the frame 4 are provided on an adjusting plate 6 provided with a bolt 61 for adjusting the position of the hinge arrangement 1 vertically.
- the mounting element 22b comprises an adjusting system including an axially internally accessible seat 221 in which a mounting frame, not shown, is seated, including two cylindrical threaded mounting projections for the securing bolts 222 which secure the adjusting plate 223 to the mounting element 22b.
- the eccentric adjusting element, not shown in the drawing, and the adjusting screw perpendicular to the axis of the hinge roller 8, not shown in the drawing, make it possible to adjust the position of the sash in relation to the frame in a plane perpendicular to the sash (so-called "gasket pressure adjustment") and to adjust the depth. After the adjustment is made, the position of the hinge is determined by tightening the securing bolts 222.
- the screw mounting system 7 in this embodiment comprises two rivet nuts 71, two mounting bolts 72 and a stiffening member 73.
- Each rivet nut 71 has a circumferential locking collar 714, an unthreaded thin-walled main cylindrical section 713, and a cylindrical section 712 with internal threads 715 for the mounting bolt 72.
- the stiffening member 73 is made of polyamide and has two cylindrical locking sleeves 733 with a diameter corresponding to the inner diameter of the internal thread 715 of the cylindrical section 712 of the rivet nut 71. From the inside, the locking sleeves 733 are provided with two-stage cross-section seats 731 whose cross-sectional diameter at the outlet is greater than the inner diameter of the seat 731.
- the seats 731 In the vicinity of the outlet, the seats 731 have a longitudinal conical section tapering in an axially inner direction, the generatrix of which is inclined at an angle ⁇ in the range of several degrees with respect to the axis of the sleeve 733.
- the seat 731 may have a two- or multi-stepped orifice.
- the locking sleeves are axially internally provided with torque locking means 732, which in this embodiment is in the form of a torque locking plate 732 when the mounting bolts 72 are screwed in.
- the locking plate 732 also connects the locking sleeves 733 and is screwed to the profile element 3 from its axially inner side by means of mounting screws 74.
- the purpose of the seat 731 is to pre-guide the mounting bolt 72 so that it freely begins to tap an internal thread therein to prevent the sleeve 733 from being pushed towards the axially inner side. As a result, the use of the mounting screw 74 may not be necessary.
- said torque locking means may be provided, for example, by snapping or gluing the locking sleeves 733 to the profile element 3 from its axially inner side, by fitting them in the profile element 3 by pressing, or by attaching them to building partition or sash filling.
- the sole and obvious purpose of the torque locking means is to prevent the locking sleeves 733 from rotating while the mounting bolts 72 are being screwed in.
- the fastening of the hinge member 2 of the hinge arrangement 1 to the profile element 3 by means of a screw mounting system 7 in the embodiment of Figs. 1-4 is as follows. First, at certain points of the thermal insulating element 3, mounting through orifices 35 are made with a diameter substantially corresponding to the diameter of the cylindrical locking sleeve 733 of the stiffening member 73 and the outer diameter of the rivet nut 71. Two stiffening members 73 are then inserted into the orifices 35 from the axially inside, and each of them is screwed to the profile element 3 by means of mounting screws 74.
- a threaded mandrel of a riveter is screwed into the internal thread 715 of each of the rivet nuts 71, and then the rivet nut 71 is inserted into the corresponding orifice 35 from its axially outer side and its circumferential locking collar 714 is pressed against the surface of the orifice.
- the cylindrical thin-walled section 713 is then upset during the return movement of the riveting mandrel, which is then unscrewed leaving the rivet nut 71 clamped against the wall of the profile element 3 between the locking collar 714 and the upset of the thin-walled section 713.
- a mounting element 22 of the hinge member is screwed to the rivet nuts 71 via mounting bolts 72.
- the mounting bolts 72 engage the seats 731 of the locking sleeves 733 of the stiffening members 73 in which they tap the threads. This stiffens the fastening of the hinge member 2 and prevents the screws 72 from loosening.

- European patent publication
EP2636830 discloses a door hinge mounting arrangement comprising a screw mounting system having an end counter plate contacting the outer surface of the hollow profile, a sleeve connecting element attached to the end plate having a threaded through hole adapted to engage a mounting bolt through a flat mounting portion of the hinge member. On the side of the sleeve element there is a retaining sleeve including a radially projecting flange for locating the mounting system against the outer surface of the hollow profile, wherein the outer diameter of the retaining sleeve corresponds to the outer diameter of the sleeve connecting element. Similar arrangements are also disclosed in the publicationsDE29922023 ,DE 20 2018 101497 U1 ,DE 27 00 100 A1 ,EP 1 223 274 A2DE202007003675 . - It has been the object of the present invention to provide a hinge arrangement with increased strength and good thermal insulation, characterized by simple construction and low production costs.
- The invention provides a thermal insulating profile element with a hinge arrangement according to
claim 1. - Such a construction of the screw mounting system allows for quick mounting of the hinge arrangement. The plastic locking sleeves prevent deformation of the thermal insulating profile elements while the mounting screws are screwed into the rivet nuts to secure the mounting element of the hinge member. The metal mounting bolts can therefore be elements that are thermally insulated from other metal elements.
- According to the invention, said two locking sleeves are paired via a locking plate constituting said torque locking means to form a unitary stiffening member.
- According to the invention, said locking plate is screwed to the profile element from its axially inner side by means of mounting screws.
- The invention shall be described and explained below in connection with the attached drawings in which:
-
Fig. 1 shows the hinge arrangement in the open position together with fragments of the frame and sash profiles in an axonometric view; -
Fig. 2 is an axonometric view of the hinge arrangement ofFig. 1 in the open position; -
Fig. 3 shows the mounting of the hinge member to the profile element in a cross section along a plane perpendicular to the hinge axis passing through the axes of the mounting bolts; -
Fig. 4 shows the hinge member with the profile element in an axonometric view from the side of the stiffening members; and -
Fig. 5 shows selected elements of the screw mounting system in longitudinal section with a rivet nut before (Fig. 5a ) and after (Fig. 5b ) mounting. -
Fig. 1 shows one of theseveral hinge arrangements 1, which in this embodiment serve to hinge the multi-chamber thermalinsulating profile elements 3 of thesash 5, not shown, of the external office door in the multi-chamber thermalinsulating profile elements 3 of theframe 4. In the contour defined by the interconnectedprofile elements 3,sashes 5, not shown, uniform or multi-chamber glazing units, panes or elements made of toughened glass, plastic, wood, etc., can be embedded. The figure shows thehinge arrangement 1 in the open position. The shownhinge arrangement 1 comprises twohinge members 2a attached to thelongitudinal profile member 3 of theframe 4 and articulated to thehinge member 2b attached to theprofile member 3 of thesash 5. - Where appropriate numerical references for elements with the same functionality, but a slightly different design, have been extended by the suffix "a" for the
frame 4 or "b" for thesash 5. The orientation of the coordinate system refers to the givenprofile element 3 and the axis of themounting bolts 72. The terms "axially outer" and "axially inner" of the profile element as used herein thus refer to the mounting side of the hinge member (axially outer side) or the side of the building envelope or sash filling (axially inner side), respectively. - In this embodiment, the
profile element 3 of theframe 4 consists of a firstaluminium box profile 31a and a secondaluminium box profile 32a, which are connected by two longitudinal shapedthermal insulating ribs 33a made of polyamide PA66 with 50% fiberglass addition. Theinsulating ribs 33a define an innerthermal insulating space 34a therebetween. Theprofile element 3 of thesash 5 in this embodiment has an analogous structure defined by a firstaluminium box profile 31b, a secondaluminium box profile 32b, connected bythermal insulating ribs 33b. The low thermal conductivity (less than 0.1 W/(m K)) of thethermal insulating ribs 33 ensures thermal separation of thebox profiles 31, 32 (whose thermal conductivity is about 200 W/(m K)) in the area of the innerthermal insulating space 34. As a result, the overall thermal resistance of theprofile elements 3 is relatively high. - Each of the
hinge members shaped hinge clamp 21 and a flat mounting element 22 withorifices 23 and is attached to the respective thermalinsulating profile element 3 via ascrew mounting system 7. Thehinge clamps 21 of thehinge members 2a of theframe 4 include ahinge roller 8 clamped therebetween, and thehinge clamp 21 of thehinge member 2b of thesash 5 includes ahinge roller 8 rotatably positioned between theclamps 21 of thehinge members 2a of theframe 4. -
Fig. 2 illustrates thehinge arrangement 1 without theprofile elements 3. As can be seen, thehinge members 2a of theframe 4 are provided on an adjustingplate 6 provided with abolt 61 for adjusting the position of thehinge arrangement 1 vertically. Moreover, in this embodiment, themounting element 22b comprises an adjusting system including an axially internallyaccessible seat 221 in which a mounting frame, not shown, is seated, including two cylindrical threaded mounting projections for the securingbolts 222 which secure the adjustingplate 223 to themounting element 22b. The eccentric adjusting element, not shown in the drawing, and the adjusting screw perpendicular to the axis of thehinge roller 8, not shown in the drawing, make it possible to adjust the position of the sash in relation to the frame in a plane perpendicular to the sash (so-called "gasket pressure adjustment") and to adjust the depth. After the adjustment is made, the position of the hinge is determined by tightening thesecuring bolts 222. - As shown in
Figs. 3 to 5 , thescrew mounting system 7 in this embodiment comprises tworivet nuts 71, twomounting bolts 72 and astiffening member 73. Eachrivet nut 71 has acircumferential locking collar 714, an unthreaded thin-walled maincylindrical section 713, and acylindrical section 712 withinternal threads 715 for themounting bolt 72. Thestiffening member 73 is made of polyamide and has twocylindrical locking sleeves 733 with a diameter corresponding to the inner diameter of theinternal thread 715 of thecylindrical section 712 of therivet nut 71. From the inside, thelocking sleeves 733 are provided with two-stage cross-section seats 731 whose cross-sectional diameter at the outlet is greater than the inner diameter of theseat 731. In the vicinity of the outlet, theseats 731 have a longitudinal conical section tapering in an axially inner direction, the generatrix of which is inclined at an angle β in the range of several degrees with respect to the axis of thesleeve 733. In another embodiment, theseat 731 may have a two- or multi-stepped orifice. - The locking sleeves are axially internally provided with
torque locking means 732, which in this embodiment is in the form of atorque locking plate 732 when themounting bolts 72 are screwed in. Thelocking plate 732 also connects thelocking sleeves 733 and is screwed to theprofile element 3 from its axially inner side by means of mountingscrews 74. The purpose of theseat 731 is to pre-guide themounting bolt 72 so that it freely begins to tap an internal thread therein to prevent thesleeve 733 from being pushed towards the axially inner side. As a result, the use of themounting screw 74 may not be necessary. In other embodiments not shown, said torque locking means may be provided, for example, by snapping or gluing thelocking sleeves 733 to theprofile element 3 from its axially inner side, by fitting them in theprofile element 3 by pressing, or by attaching them to building partition or sash filling. The sole and obvious purpose of the torque locking means is to prevent thelocking sleeves 733 from rotating while themounting bolts 72 are being screwed in. - The fastening of the
hinge member 2 of thehinge arrangement 1 to theprofile element 3 by means of ascrew mounting system 7 in the embodiment ofFigs. 1-4 is as follows. First, at certain points of the thermalinsulating element 3, mounting throughorifices 35 are made with a diameter substantially corresponding to the diameter of thecylindrical locking sleeve 733 of thestiffening member 73 and the outer diameter of therivet nut 71. Twostiffening members 73 are then inserted into theorifices 35 from the axially inside, and each of them is screwed to theprofile element 3 by means of mountingscrews 74. In a manner known from the prior art, a threaded mandrel of a riveter is screwed into theinternal thread 715 of each of therivet nuts 71, and then therivet nut 71 is inserted into thecorresponding orifice 35 from its axially outer side and itscircumferential locking collar 714 is pressed against the surface of the orifice. The cylindrical thin-walled section 713 is then upset during the return movement of the riveting mandrel, which is then unscrewed leaving therivet nut 71 clamped against the wall of theprofile element 3 between thelocking collar 714 and the upset of the thin-walled section 713. Thereafter, a mounting element 22 of the hinge member is screwed to therivet nuts 71 viamounting bolts 72. As the screwing continues, themounting bolts 72 engage theseats 731 of thelocking sleeves 733 of thestiffening members 73 in which they tap the threads. This stiffens the fastening of thehinge member 2 and prevents thescrews 72 from loosening. - The figures are not necessarily to scale and some features may be exaggerated or minimized. The above embodiments of the present invention are therefore merely exemplary. These and other factors however should not be considered as limiting the scope of the invention, the intended scope of protection of which is indicated in the appended claim.
