Definitions
- the present invention relates to an electrical heating device with a housing which has a partition wall which separates a connection chamber from a heating chamber for emitting heat. At least one PTC element protrudes from the partition wall in the direction of the heating chamber. This PTC heating element is exposed like a heating rib in the heating chamber.
- the PTC heating element has at least one PTC element and conductive tracks connected to it in an electrically conductive manner, which are assigned different polarities for energizing the PTC element. These conductor tracks are electrically connected to the power flow in the connection chamber.
- Such a heating device is for example off EP 1 872 986 A1 or EP 2 337 425 A1 known.
- Another also generic electrical heating device is from EP 3 334 242 A1 known.
- the PTC heating element is first manufactured as a separate component and inserted as such in a heating element receptacle which is formed on the partition wall, so that the connection-side end of the heating element housing is sealed in the heating element receptacle of the partition wall and the conductor tracks with it their free, connection-side ends are exposed in the connection chamber in order to be electrically connected there.
- the PTC heating element preassembled in this way is held in the heating element receptacle with a friction fit.
- the PTC heating element has a labyrinth seal formed by the heating element housing, which is pressed into the heating element receptacle.
- the attachment of the PTC heating element should at least be suitable for the assembly of the individual components of the previously known electrical heating device. After all the components of the electrical heating device have been assembled, the PTC heating element is supported on its underside opposite the connection side on a base which, in the example discussed above, closes the heating chamber. The PTC heating element is clamped between the floor and the heating element receptacle and secured in its installation position.
- the present invention is based on the problem of specifying an improved electrical heating device of the type mentioned at the beginning.
- the present invention proposes an electric heating device having the features of claim 1.
- This has a holding element which engages around the heating element housing.
- the holding element has a receiving opening which usually surrounds the heating element housing and engages around it in such a way that a mechanical connection is produced between the heating element housing and the holding element.
- Such a connection is usually an at least non-positively or frictionally acting connection.
- the heating element housing can initially be joined specifically to the partition wall of the electrical heating device during production, for example with the separately prepared housing, for example it can be plugged in, as shown below EP 3 334 242 A1 is known in principle, and by sliding the retaining element onto the heating element housing from the heating chamber side, the heating element encompasses the heating element housing.
- the holding element usually has holding projections resting on the outer surface of the heating element housing, for example in the form of elastic spring tongues that interact with the outer surface of the heating element housing.
- the retaining element according to the invention is connected to the partition wall on its side facing the heating chamber.
- the holding element is also connected to the heating element housing, in particular due to the aforementioned force or frictional engagement.
- the retaining element thus mechanically secures the heating element housing relative to the housing of the electrical heating device and thus the partition.
- the present invention is also suitable for the mechanical fastening of heating elements which, other than by means of plug-in contacts according to EP 3 334 242 A1 are connected to the housing of the electrical heating device and thus its partition.
- the solution according to the invention offers an additional means of securing the heating element housing with respect to the housing of the electrical heating device through the retaining element, even if this is formed in one piece with the partition or is connected to it by means of a material bond, for example by welding.
- a sealing element usually ensures the sealing of the PTC heating element held in the heating element receptacle of the partition.
- Each PTC heating element is usually provided with a sealing element, whereas only one holding element is usually provided for all PTC heating elements of the heating device.
- the solution according to the invention brings particular advantages in connection with plug-in contact-type heating element housings held in the partition or at least sealed therein, which are initially produced separately. Because that Holding element can mechanically fasten such heating element housings permanently and reliably relative to the housing of the electrical heating device and thus secure them. For this purpose, it is usually only necessary to push the holding element from the heating chamber side over the heating element housing and to connect it to the housing of the electrical heating device.
- connection between the holding element and the heating element housing is preferably - as already conveyed - a non-positive connection.
- the holding element is also connected to the partition wall and thus to the housing of the electrical heating device in a force-locking manner.
- a solid mechanical connection can thus be created by pushing on the holding element and placing the holding element against the partition.
- This connection can be made in that the holding element placed on the partition wall is subsequently caulked or otherwise reshaped and / or connected.
- the holding element is connected to the housing of the heating device solely by placing it against the partition and pressing it against it.
- the retaining element only needs to be pushed over the heating element housing and applied with a certain pressing force, for example against the partition, in order to bring the retaining element into its installation position and thus mechanically connect it to the heating element housing on the one hand and the partition on the other.
- the solution according to the invention also offers the advantage that the holding element can interact as a shield with the heating element housing in order to connect it electrically, for example, to a ground pole or to ground which is provided via the housing of the electrical heating device.
- the housing can be completely or partially electrically conductive. It can also only hold and fix one ground pole to which the holding element is electrically connected in the installed position.
- the shielding of the PTC element within the heating element housing requires a heating element shield which is part of the heating element housing.
- Such a shield can be formed, for example, by a casing surrounding the PTC element.
- This sheath can be an electrically conductive configuration, preferably made of metal, which usually completely surrounds the PTC element.
- Such a configuration can be connected as a shielding grid with a plastic housing, which combines the PTC heating element and the contact plates to form a unit, as shown in this EP 3 334 242 A1 is known.
- Such a casing made of an electrically conductive material surrounding the PTC element is made, for example US 2008/0173637 A1 known.
- PTC element and the electrically conductive traces attached to it are each introduced into a tube with a rectangular cross-sectional area with an insulating layer in between, the inner surface of which is applied to the insulating layer in a heat-conducting manner and thus indirectly to one of the heat extraction surfaces of the PTC elements within the tube.
- Such a heating rod also offers the possibility of forming a casing surrounding the PTC element.
- the heating rod does not necessarily have to be closed with a shielding element at its free lower end facing away from the partition, although such an element is preferable as a stopper to form a complete envelope.
- the shielding can, however, also be formed by a pocket that completely seals the at least one PTC element and the two conductor tracks, which is closed on its underside and also otherwise encloses the PTC element and the conductor tracks in a sealed manner, with electrical contact tongues, which are usually in one piece from the contact sheets forming the conductor tracks are formed and protrude beyond the outside of the pocket.
- Such a pocket can be formed, for example, from a sheet metal material that is initially prepared as a tube, then fitted with the PTC element and the conductor tracks and then reshaped so that heat-coupling surfaces of the PTC element are in contact with the inner surfaces of the pocket in a thermally conductive manner.
- the pocket can also be filled with a thermally conductive compound, for example a silicone compound, in order to connect the inner surface of the pocket to the heat extraction surfaces of the PTC element in a manner that is as good as possible in terms of heat. It goes without saying that such a PTC element and the conductor tracks connected to it in an electrically conductive manner are supported in an insulated manner within such an electrically conductive pocket.
- the conductor tracks, the PTC element and usually on both sides of the main side surfaces of the PTC element, which are the largest side surfaces of the PTC element and accordingly form the relevant heat extraction surfaces, adjacent insulating layers in a holder made of an insulating material can be preassembled, which are in the Bag is introduced.
- the pocket It is equally possible to equip the pocket with the insulating layers and the contact plates that form the conductor tracks and to arrange the PTC element (s) between the conductor tracks, with the pocket then preferably being reshaped from the outside in order to protect the inner walls with good Apply thermal conductivity with the interposition of the insulating layers and the conductor tracks against the heat extraction surfaces of the PTC element. Then the pocket may be filled with the thermally conductive compound.
- the previously mentioned pocket surrounds the electrically conductive elements of the PTC heating element and, thanks to the metallic material of the pocket, also provides an electrically shielding covering for the at least one PTC element inside the pocket.
- the connection chamber for each individual heating element housing only the usually two connection lugs of the two conductor tracks per heating element have to be electrically connected.
- the connection of the same to the shielding is simplified by pushing the holding element onto all of the heating element housings.
- these are preferably of identical design and accordingly protrude with the same length from the partition wall, which is usually flat.
- the aforementioned shield preferably also extends over the connection chamber, which for this purpose has a connection chamber shield that electromagnetically shields this connection chamber.
- This shielding can be formed in that the housing parts forming the connection chamber are made from an electrically conductive material, in particular from metal.
- the partition wall can be formed in one piece on the connection chamber side with a circumferential edge which is provided with a metallic housing cover for the connection chamber, as shown for example in FIG EP 3 334 242 A1 is known to also seal the connection chamber so that no moisture and no contamination can get into the connection chamber.
- the partition wall and parts of the housing can just as well be made of plastic with an associated shield.
- the shield can be arranged in the plastic housing by overmolding.
- the person skilled in the art is familiar with various possibilities for providing the connection chamber and / or the partition wall with an effective electromagnetic shield.
- This shield is connected in an electrically conductive manner to the holding element, so that the shield extends from the heating elements via the holding element to the connection chamber shield. This provides effective EMC protection for the electrical heating device.
- the housing has at least one locking projection that surrounds the holding element on the outside.
- This locking projection is usually in one piece through the partition wall forming housing formed.
- the holding element has a housing connection tongue which rests against the locking projection under prestress. The configuration is preferably selected such that after the holding element has been pushed onto the heating element housing, the holding element is also electrically connected to the housing via the housing connection tongues.
- the housing connection tongue usually rests against a surface of the locking projection under elastic pretension; the housing connection tongue usually scratches along the corresponding surface when the holding element is pushed onto the heating element housing.
- a plurality of locking projections formed by the housing and a plurality of housing connection tongues assigned to these are usually provided.
- the holding element and the housing preferably have functional surfaces which are assigned to one another and which interact in such a way that the holding element is held in its installed position in a predetermined arrangement and orientation relative to the partition or the housing.
- the partition wall can form a collar that preferably surrounds the at least one heating element housing circumferentially.
- this collar is encompassed by the holding element.
- the holding element has an at least partially circumferential edge which is designed at least in such a way that it interacts with the collar on opposite sides and engages around it. This results in a positive positioning of the holding element relative to the partition wall.
- the edge preferably runs around the full circumference of the outer contour of the holding element and interacts with a collar which is likewise constructed over the full circumference.
- the holding element is formed by a one-piece sheet metal element.
- This sheet metal element forms the previously described receiving opening.
- the previously discussed edge is preferably also formed on the sheet metal element by bending and punching.
- the holding element is preferably essentially flat and does not build up, or builds up only slightly, in the height direction of the PTC heating element.
- By punching and bending at least one, preferably several, contact tongues are provided which are exposed in the receiving opening and rest against the heating element housing under elastic pretension.
- the contact tongue differs from the spring segment in that the former also creates electrical contact with the outer surface a shield causes.
- the contact tongues usually protrude from the plane of the sheet metal element in the direction of the lower end of the heating element housing from the receiving opening.
- the contact tongues flex counter to the pushing-on direction and lie elastically on the outer surface of the heating element housing.
- the present invention specifies a method for producing an electrical heating device with the features of claim 12, which has already been presented above with its essential method steps.
- the heating element housing or housings are usually secured to the partition wall via the retaining element before electrical connection elements of the conductor tracks, for example connection lugs, which are formed in one piece by contact sheets for the individual PTC elements, are electrically connected in the area of the connection chamber.
- a floor element like it can be made from EP 3 334 242 A1 is known to be connected to the housing forming the partition wall in order to shape the heating chamber as a substantially circumferentially closed circulation chamber with one inlet and one outlet connection each for the usually liquid medium to be heated.
- the heating element housing of each individual PTC heating element is exposed like a heating rib.
- the Fig. 1 shows an exemplary embodiment of a holding element 2 formed by punching and bending, which has a plurality of receiving openings 4, which extend parallel to one another and are designed as elongated holes, into which contact tongues 6 protrude on opposite longitudinal sides of the receiving openings 4.
- Housing connection tongues 8 are provided at the rear longitudinal edge of the holding element 2. In the present case, three housing connection tongues 8 are provided there.
- a further housing connection tongue 8 is located on opposite transverse sides of the holding element 2, which is designed as a parallelogram in its base area.
- the holding element 2 is formed by punching and bending a sheet metal material.
- the housing connection tongues 8 and the contact tongues 6 protrude from the flat sheet metal material on one side, whereas a fully closed circumferential edge 10 protrudes from the other side, which is formed out of the plane of the sheet metal material by bending it.
- the contact tongues 6 have - as can be seen in particular Fig. 4 results - a fastening-side end which is connected to the edge of the receiving opening 4 and protrudes therefrom, and a free end which is bent over again compared to a web-shaped section protruding obliquely from the plane of the sheet metal material and is essentially at right angles to the plane of the sheet material extends.
- the free end of the contact tongue 6 can end with sharp edges.
- the holding element 2 can be made of brass, steel, copper or aluminum.
- a material should be selected which, on the one hand, has good electrical conductivity and, on the other hand, has a certain spring stiffness, so that the contact tongues can rest against the heating element housing with good contact pressure.
- the PTC heating elements are in Fig. 2 marked with reference number 12.
- the PTC element and the contact plates are also encapsulated and then separated from the medium to be heated, which flows against the outside of the heating element housing for heating in order to absorb and dissipate the heat generated by the PTC element.
- the PTC heating elements protrude from a housing 16 which forms a heating element receptacle 18 for each PCT heating element 12.
- the end of the PTC heating element 12 on the connection side is inserted into this heating element receptacle 18.
- the heating element housing 14 is usually provided with a circumferential seal on its outer circumference, which seal lies against the walls of the housing 16 defining the heating element receptacle 18, cf. EP 3 334 242 A1 .
- the housing 16 can be a metal die-cast housing. To form a terminal chamber shield, the housing 16 can just as well be an injection-molded plastic housing into which a shield is incorporated or connected to the plastic housing, for example by overmolding with the plastic. At diagonally opposite corners of the housing 16, which is basically designed with a rectangular base area, on the one hand a connector housing 20 for the power flow and on the other hand a connector housing 22 for control signals is connected to the housing 16.
- the two connector housings 20, 22 are made of plastic and are connected to the housing 16 with a seal in between.
- the housing 16 is basically designed in the shape of a shell, a bottom of the shell forming a partition wall 24 in which the heating element receptacles 18 are recessed.
- This partition wall 24 is circumferentially surrounded by a circumferential housing wall 26 which encloses a receiving chamber.
- the contact plates of the individual PTC heating elements 12 for electrical connection to the power current are exposed in this connection chamber, identified by reference numeral 28.
- the connection chamber 28 usually also houses a control device which controls all PTC heating elements and, if necessary, groups them into different heating circuits.
- a heating chamber is indicated by reference numeral 30.
- this heating chamber 30 is completed by a further housing element, not shown, which encloses all the PTC heating elements 12 with the exclusion of the connector housings 20, 22 and has a bottom, so that a circulation chamber is formed as a heating chamber, which is accessible from the outside through inlet and outlet ports in order to circulate a medium to be heated in the circulation chamber and to lead it past the surfaces of the PTC heating elements 12 in order to heat the medium .
- Fig. 2 is the holding element 2 after Fig. 1 provided as an extension of the free ends of the PTC heating elements 12.
- the direction line P indicate the assembly direction.
- the holding element 2 is thus pushed over the individual heating element housings 14.
- the contact tongues 6 lie against the outer surface of the heating element housing 14 and contact them electrically. They scrape against the outer surface of the heating element housing 14 when the retaining element is applied.
- the Fig. 3 shows the installation position of the holding element 2.
- this holding element 2 engages with its edge 10 around a partition wall 24 that circumferentially surrounds and in Fig. 2 collar marked with reference numeral 32.
- the holding element 2 is positioned relative to the partition wall 24 and thus the housing 16.
- the contact tongues 6 provided on the opposite long sides of the elongated holes contact the opposite main side surfaces of the heating element housings 14 in this installation position. This results in electrical contact between these heating element housings 14 and the holding element 2, which can also act positively when the contact tongue 6 is tapered.
- the housing 16 has a plurality of locking projections 34 protruding from the partition 24 in the direction of the heating chamber 30, which in the present case are formed in one piece with the die-cast housing.
- the housing connection tongues 8 rest in an electrically conductive manner on these locking projections 34.
- the housing connection tongues 8 scrape past the surface of the locking projections 34, so that on the one hand there is a form-fitting, sometimes clawing and thus form-fitting connection, which also creates electrical contact between the holding element 2 and the housing 16.
- a non-positive and / or positive connection between the Holding element 2 and the housing 16 This connection is also electrically conductive.
- the connection between the holding element 2 and the heating element housing 14 is also electrically conductive.
- the electrically conductive properties of the housing 16 result in a circumferential shielding which the PTC elements of the PTC heating elements 12 and surrounds the connection ends of the contact tongues for electrical connection of the PCT elements in the area of the connection chamber 28.
- the Figure 7 illustrates details of the PTC heating element 12, which in the present case only has a PTC element 40, which is covered with an insulating layer 44 on its mutually opposite main side surfaces 42.
- the insulating layers 44 are formed by a plastic film, for example from Kapton.
- the PTC element 40 is designed as a plate with a width B and a length L which are greater by a factor of at least 10 than a thickness which corresponds to the distance between the two main side surfaces 42.
- contact plates are provided as conductor tracks 48 in the sense of the invention, which are glued to the ceramic PTC element 40 and are therefore electrically conductive to a surface metallization of the PTC element 40, which can be applied as a layer by means of PVD or CVD, can be connected.
- the conductor tracks 48 can also only be placed on the PTC element 40.
- Each conductor track 48 forms a contact surface 50 which rests in an electrically conductive manner on the main side surface 42 of the PTC element 40, a contact tongue 5 protruding beyond the PTC element 40 on one side.
- the contact surface 50 is provided congruently with the main side surface 42 of the PTC element 40.
- the insulating layer 44 lies on the side facing away from the PTC element 40 on the conductor tracks 48 and covers it.

Description
The present invention relates to an electrical heating device with a housing which has a partition wall which separates a connection chamber from a heating chamber for emitting heat. At least one PTC element protrudes from the partition wall in the direction of the heating chamber. This PTC heating element is exposed like a heating rib in the heating chamber. The PTC heating element has at least one PTC element and conductive tracks connected to it in an electrically conductive manner, which are assigned different polarities for energizing the PTC element. These conductor tracks are electrically connected to the power flow in the connection chamber.
In the prior art mentioned above, the PTC heating element preassembled in this way is held in the heating element receptacle with a friction fit. For this, the PTC heating element has a labyrinth seal formed by the heating element housing, which is pressed into the heating element receptacle.
The present invention is based on the problem of specifying an improved electrical heating device of the type mentioned at the beginning.
The retaining element according to the invention is connected to the partition wall on its side facing the heating chamber. The holding element is also connected to the heating element housing, in particular due to the aforementioned force or frictional engagement. The retaining element thus mechanically secures the heating element housing relative to the housing of the electrical heating device and thus the partition.
However, the solution according to the invention brings particular advantages in connection with plug-in contact-type heating element housings held in the partition or at least sealed therein, which are initially produced separately.
The connection between the holding element and the heating element housing is preferably - as already conveyed - a non-positive connection. Preferably, however, the holding element is also connected to the partition wall and thus to the housing of the electrical heating device in a force-locking manner. A solid mechanical connection can thus be created by pushing on the holding element and placing the holding element against the partition. This connection can be made in that the holding element placed on the partition wall is subsequently caulked or otherwise reshaped and / or connected. Preferably, however, the holding element is connected to the housing of the heating device solely by placing it against the partition and pressing it against it. The retaining element only needs to be pushed over the heating element housing and applied with a certain pressing force, for example against the partition, in order to bring the retaining element into its installation position and thus mechanically connect it to the heating element housing on the one hand and the partition on the other.
The shielding can, however, also be formed by a pocket that completely seals the at least one PTC element and the two conductor tracks, which is closed on its underside and also otherwise encloses the PTC element and the conductor tracks in a sealed manner, with electrical contact tongues, which are usually in one piece from the contact sheets forming the conductor tracks are formed and protrude beyond the outside of the pocket.
Such a pocket can be formed, for example, from a sheet metal material that is initially prepared as a tube, then fitted with the PTC element and the conductor tracks and then reshaped so that heat-coupling surfaces of the PTC element are in contact with the inner surfaces of the pocket in a thermally conductive manner. Additionally or alternatively, the pocket can also be filled with a thermally conductive compound, for example a silicone compound, in order to connect the inner surface of the pocket to the heat extraction surfaces of the PTC element in a manner that is as good as possible in terms of heat. It goes without saying that such a PTC element and the conductor tracks connected to it in an electrically conductive manner are supported in an insulated manner within such an electrically conductive pocket. For this purpose, the conductor tracks, the PTC element and usually on both sides of the main side surfaces of the PTC element, which are the largest side surfaces of the PTC element and accordingly form the relevant heat extraction surfaces, adjacent insulating layers in a holder made of an insulating material can be preassembled, which are in the Bag is introduced. It is equally possible to equip the pocket with the insulating layers and the contact plates that form the conductor tracks and to arrange the PTC element (s) between the conductor tracks, with the pocket then preferably being reshaped from the outside in order to protect the inner walls with good Apply thermal conductivity with the interposition of the insulating layers and the conductor tracks against the heat extraction surfaces of the PTC element. Then the pocket may be filled with the thermally conductive compound.
In any case, the previously mentioned pocket surrounds the electrically conductive elements of the PTC heating element and, thanks to the metallic material of the pocket, also provides an electrically shielding covering for the at least one PTC element inside the pocket. The holding element encompassing this covering, which is electrically conductively connected to the covering, results in external contacting of the shielding via the holding element, which in turn can be connected to a ground pole that is assigned to the partition or formed by it. Thus, in the connection chamber for each individual heating element housing, only the usually two connection lugs of the two conductor tracks per heating element have to be electrically connected. In particular, when there are several PTC heating elements, the connection of the same to the shielding is simplified by pushing the holding element onto all of the heating element housings. For this purpose, these are preferably of identical design and accordingly protrude with the same length from the partition wall, which is usually flat.
The partition wall and parts of the housing can just as well be made of plastic with an associated shield. The shield can be arranged in the plastic housing by overmolding. The person skilled in the art is familiar with various possibilities for providing the connection chamber and / or the partition wall with an effective electromagnetic shield. This shield is connected in an electrically conductive manner to the holding element, so that the shield extends from the heating elements via the holding element to the connection chamber shield. This provides effective EMC protection for the electrical heating device.
For simple electrical contacting of the shielding cover with the holding element, the housing has at least one locking projection that surrounds the holding element on the outside. This locking projection is usually in one piece through the partition wall forming housing formed. The holding element has a housing connection tongue which rests against the locking projection under prestress. The configuration is preferably selected such that after the holding element has been pushed onto the heating element housing, the holding element is also electrically connected to the housing via the housing connection tongues. The housing connection tongue usually rests against a surface of the locking projection under elastic pretension; the housing connection tongue usually scratches along the corresponding surface when the holding element is pushed onto the heating element housing.
With a view to the best possible electrical contact, a plurality of locking projections formed by the housing and a plurality of housing connection tongues assigned to these are usually provided. In addition, it is preferable to connect the holding element not only in a non-positive but also in a form-fitting manner to the partition wall or to the housing forming the partition wall. Thus, the holding element and the housing preferably have functional surfaces which are assigned to one another and which interact in such a way that the holding element is held in its installed position in a predetermined arrangement and orientation relative to the partition or the housing.
For this purpose, for example, the partition wall can form a collar that preferably surrounds the at least one heating element housing circumferentially. According to the preferred development, this collar is encompassed by the holding element. Thus, the holding element has an at least partially circumferential edge which is designed at least in such a way that it interacts with the collar on opposite sides and engages around it. This results in a positive positioning of the holding element relative to the partition wall. The edge preferably runs around the full circumference of the outer contour of the holding element and interacts with a collar which is likewise constructed over the full circumference.
According to a preferred development of the present invention, the holding element is formed by a one-piece sheet metal element. This sheet metal element forms the previously described receiving opening. The previously discussed edge is preferably also formed on the sheet metal element by bending and punching. Nevertheless, the holding element is preferably essentially flat and does not build up, or builds up only slightly, in the height direction of the PTC heating element. By punching and bending, at least one, preferably several, contact tongues are provided which are exposed in the receiving opening and rest against the heating element housing under elastic pretension. The contact tongue differs from the spring segment in that the former also creates electrical contact with the outer surface a shield causes. The contact tongues usually protrude from the plane of the sheet metal element in the direction of the lower end of the heating element housing from the receiving opening. Thus, when the holding element is pushed onto the heating element housing, the contact tongues flex counter to the pushing-on direction and lie elastically on the outer surface of the heating element housing.
