Abstract
Description
- . A typical problem noted along the lifetime of household appliances using steam is the malfunctioning thereof caused by formation of scale inside the boiler. In fact, when using public domestic water, limestone contained therein creates scale blocking particular points in the steam circuit, such as for example, the steam valve shutter. In order to avoid this problem, several methods have been developed for removing scale or preventing the formation thereof inside boilers, such as for example, chemical or biodegradables agents to reduce water hardness, the use of disposable filters or even electrolytic methods.
- .
WO2015/158977 discloses a household appliance having a tank and a water supply system connected to the tank, which comprises at least one agent and means inhibiting scale formation during boiling and/or evaporation of water coming from the tank or contained thereof. The agent inhibiting scale formation is a biodegradable agent which is, at least partially, water soluble. - .
CN105937180 discloses an ironing board comprising a steam generator, a container splitted from the steam generator and a steam distribution ring used for steam distribution from the steam generator. The steam distribution cycle comprises at least one filter used to block limestone particles conveyed by steam. The filter is removable from the device, then can be easily cleaned. - .
US2016/201255 discloses a steam generator with a steam exit. A filtering unit is placed on the steam path. The filter unit has a filtering cartridge detachably mounted along the steam path having a cartridge slot and a filtering mean placed inside the cartridge box. The filter unit also has a cartridge entrance and exit placed along or towards a first end of the cartridge box, and a barrier designed for leading the steam to flow inside the cartridge box towards a second end. The filter unit is distanced from the steam exit for filtering steam impurities flowing along the steam path. - .
US2017/001885 discloses a decalcification device of an aqueous solution. The decalcification device presents an electrolytic cell designed to receive an aqueous solution. The electrolytic cell has a first electrode and a second electrode, and an ion-generating body, like for example a membrane or an interposed electrolytic electrode. The decalcification device is configured to operate in a first operating condition for ions removal from the aqueous solution, and a second operating condition to regenerate ions inside the aqueous solution, the latter, for example, by inverting polarities. - .
WO2016/116319 discloses a steam production device. The device comprises a slanted plate, and a heating element generating steam. Water is supplied to the plate near the upper end. The control unit is configured to check the water flow delivered to the plate and the plate temperature so that essentially all the water delivered to the plate shall evaporate before reaching the lower end of the plate. Limestone formed on the plate drops in a collecting box below the plate thanks to the slope of the plate itself. - . The invention relates to a boiler comprising a resistance for water heating, a steam exit and a system for controlling temperature and/or pressure inside the boiler, said boiler containing a plate which comprises at least one hole for steam passage from the lower part to the upper part of the boiler.
-
- .
Fig. 1 represents a vertical view along section B - B of a boiler according to the assembled invention. - .
Fig. 2 represents a perspective view from above of the boiler ofFig. 1 . - . The present invention is directed to a boiler preferably comprising an upper part and a lower part. The boiler comprises a resistance for water heating, a steam exit, a water temperature and/or pressure regulation system in the boiler, a water entrance and a safety valve. The upper part and the lower are locked together by conventional means.
- . It has been surprisingly found that the insertion of a plate inside the boiler significantly retards scale formation which lead to boiler blockage. Said system increases boiler lifetime without maintenance and above all it is particularly useful for the boiler of household appliances. Said plate divides the boiler into a lower part containing water and an upper part where, while working, steam is present.
- . With reference to
Fig. 1 ,plate 100 is in horizontal position. Nevertheless, generally, the plate preferably has a tilt lower than or equal to 30° compared to the horizontal plane. - .
Plate 100 is preferably placed at a height preferably comprised between 40 and 70% of the total height ofboiler 10. - . Said
plate 100 is preferably a metal foil, or a porous material or a small-meshed net. Additionally, plate 100 has at least one hole for water passage from upper part to lower part, and for steam passage from lower part to upper part of boiler. Optionally the plate can include more holes, forexample hole 140 for the passage oflevel probe 40. Nevertheless, preferably, the plate does not include holes adjacent to thesteam exit 31. In particularly preferred embodiment, steam exit 31 is placed in theupper part 12 of the boiler in distal position with respect towater entrance pipe 20, and then with respect tohole 120. - . Along the steam exit path, it can preferably be inserted a
valve 30, even more preferably an electro-valve. Said (electro)valve can preferably be placed adjacent to boiler 10 o even more downstream of the pipe which brings steam to the use point (e.g. the iron plate). Consequently, in a preferred embodiment of the invention, the boiler comprises asteam exit pipe 31 upon which an electro-valve 30 is placed. Even more preferably, electro-valve 30 is placed close toboiler 10, as described inFig. 1 and 2 . - . Preferably,
steam exit 31 is further sheltered from a net 80 intercepting possible water sprays and avoiding the scale contained therein to reach the steam exit. Said net 80 preferably has aspacer 81 for excluding contact withplate 100. The net 80 is preferably made by metallic material and even more preferably is a small-meshed net. - .
Boiler 10 preferably has a system for water level regulation. All water level regulation systems known in the art can be used. Non-limiting examples of level regulation systems suitable in the present invention are conductimetric level sensors and temperature probes. - . Conductimetric level sensors warn when water level goes below the established level. In case of
boiler 10 with an extra water tank, the level sensor, when the level goes below the minimum value, activates the water pump. In one embodiment, the water pump keeps on working until the sensor indicates that the minimum level is reached. In this way, little extra water reestablishes the level without producing a significant water cooling inside the boiler. In case of boiler without extra tank, the level sensor, when the level goes below the minimum value, activates a signal (e.g. a luminous led) warning the user that it is necessary to fill up the boiler, once this turned cold. - . The boiler level can also be regulated by a temperature sensor. In this case, when the resistance remains partially or completely uncovered, a quick increase in the boiler temperature takes place. The increasing of temperature will activate a warning by the temperature sensor. In case of a
boiler 10 with an extra water tank, the probe signal will turn on of the pump which, in a preferred embodiment, will keep on running until the temperature sensor detects a temperature below the maximum one. In case of a boiler without tank, the temperature sensor activates a signal (e.g. a luminous led) warning about a temperature increase inside the boiler informing the user about the need of filling up the boiler, once it turned cold. - . The volume of
boiler 10 preferably varies from 100 ml to 2000 ml. In case the household appliance has a water tank adjacent toboiler 10, the volume ofboiler 10 can preferably vary from 200 ml to 1000 ml and even more preferably from 400 ml to 70 0ml. - . This configuration presents the advantage of a reduced power consumption given that just the portion of water present in
boiler 10 is heated. A further advantage is that the tank adjacent theboiler 10 can be filled during use, without awaiting cooling ofboiler 10. At last, a boiler with less volume is more practical as it has a shorter heating time, at start-up when compared to a higher volume boiler. - . In case of a boiler without adjacent tank, the boiler volume can vary preferably between 800 ml and 2000 ml.
- .
Boiler 10 has aresistance 50 for water heating. Preferably, the boiler also comprises at least athermoregulation 70, 71, or more generally a device for the regulation of temperature. Furthermore, boiler 10 preferably also comprises a device for measuring pressure, forexample pressure sensor 60. - . In a preferred embodiment, the boiler according to the invention is used in steam irons, steam cleaners, steam brooms or in general for any household appliances using steam.
- . The boiler of the present invention, when used with water having hardness, in French degrees, less than or equal to 20, has a lifetime preferably longer than 500 hours, more preferably longer than 1000 hours. In case of combined use with an iron, assuming an average utilisation of about 2 hours per week, this data corresponds to an average lifetime of boiler, with tub water and without maintenance, longer than 5 years, preferably longer than 10 years. Where with the term average lifetime it is intended an average time of use of the boiler before the occurring of scale problems affecting the functioning.
- . Boiler lifetime test. Three types of boilers were tested.
- 1. Prior art boiler (without plate 100).
- 2. Boiler with
plate 100. - 3. Boiler with
plate 100 and net 80. - . Test method: the test is made by performing working periods spaced by cooling periods. During the working period, steam is provided at regular intervals (15 sec on / 15 sec off). During cooling periods, the machine is allowed to cool to room temperature. Periods follow each other along 24 hours. Time (measured in hours) of steam delivery is calculated just considering the steam working cycles (on + off). Test conditions can affect the results, not the improvement in terms of percentage.
