Definitions
- the invention relates to a cable assembly device for cutting and stripping a cable and for assembling the cable with crimp contacts according to the preamble of claim 1.
- “Crimping” means the production of a non-releasable electrical and mechanical connection (crimp connection) by plastic deformation between a conductor and a crimp contact.
- Cable assembling devices for assembling electrical cables in which the cables are cut to length, stripped and then a crimp contact is brought onto the stripped conductor end of the cable in a crimping press station, have long been known and used.
- the EP 1 447 888 A1 shows, for example, a cable assembly device with a cutting and stripping unit and two stations with crimping presses. The device also has a cable feed designed as a belt drive for moving the cable along a longitudinal axis.
- the cutting and stripping unit is arranged on the longitudinal axis.
- the cable since the two crimping press stations are located next to the longitudinal axis, the cable must be guided to the respective crimping presses using swivel arms provided with grippers.
- the leading cable end and with the second crimp press the trailing cable end are fitted with crimp contacts.
- the cable assembly device should be characterized by a high degree of flexibility with regard to varying cables and crimp connections.
- a cutting and stripping unit has at least one knife for cutting to length to cut the cable.
- a cut-to-length cable piece and a remaining cable shortened around the cable piece are produced.
- a rear end of the severed cable (cut-off cable piece) and finally a front end of the cable (remaining cable) can be stripped.
- the order of the two stripping steps can also be reversed (ie first the remaining cable, then the cut piece of cable).
- the cutting and stripping unit can preferably have at least one cutting knife for cutting the cable.
- the cutting and stripping unit further has at least a first stripping knife for stripping a rear end of the cable cut through by the separating knife (s) and at least a second stripping knife for stripping a front end of the cable (remaining cable).
- the arrangement with the several knives has the advantage that the two cable ends can be cut at the same time - as the first step of the essentially two-stage stripping process, which also includes removing the insulation.
- the cable assembly device then comprises a crimping press with a first crimping tool for connecting the rear or trailing end of the stripped, stripped cable piece to a first crimp contact and a second crimping tool for connecting the front end of the stripped remaining cable to a second crimp contact.
- the crimping tools can each be constructed in two parts, one part being designed to be movable or movable and containing a one-part or multi-part crimping die and the other part preferably being stationary and containing the counterpart to the crimping die (anvil).
- the movable part of the respective crimping tool is referred to below as the upper tool; the preferably stationary part of the respective crimping tool is referred to below as the lower tool.
- the mentioned cutting and stripping unit and the two crimping tools of the crimping press form the three essential assembly components of the cable assembly device.
- the cable assembly device has a lifting element that can be moved translationally and preferably in the vertical direction by means of a drive unit, and that at least two of the three assembly components can be operated via the lifting element, creates an inexpensive cable assembly device that is simple in construction and can be used flexibly.
- all essential processing steps that have to be carried out on the cable in the vertical direction can be carried out simply by moving the lifting element.
- the operative connection between the lifting element and the cutting and stripping unit advantageously only affects the cutting processes for cutting and stripping.
- the removal process in which the cut insulation is removed from the cable, can be carried out, for example, in a manner known per se by means of horizontally movable grippers.
- a compact device By using such a lifting element for the cutting operations for cutting and stripping and for crimping, a compact device can also be created which is characterized by a small space requirement.
- Different drive solutions are conceivable for moving the lifting element.
- the lifting element In addition to a motor-driven eccentric shaft, the lifting element could also be moved, for example, with a spindle drive or a toggle mechanism.
- the cable assembly device is preferably designed such that the cutting and stripping unit and the first crimping tool and the second crimping tool of the crimping press can be operated via the lifting element. If all three assembly components can be operated via the vertically movable lifting element, the cable assembly device can be operated particularly efficiently.
- the crimping press can have a lowering device for positioning the cable during crimping, the lowering device also being movable by means of the lifting element (for example by fastening the lowering device to the lifting element).
- the first crimping tool and the second crimping tool can each have movable upper tools, preferably equipped with crimping dies, the upper tools being attached or being attachable to the lifting element.
- the crimping die can be constructed in two parts in a known manner for producing the insulation and wire crimp.
- the cable assembly device can preferably have lower tools equipped with anvils, which are immovably mounted in the cable assembly device, at least for the assembly process.
- the lower tools could be connected to the upper tools via a gear such that they can be moved in opposite directions in the vertical direction. This variant would have the advantage that the cables would not have to be lowered when crimping to position the stripped cable ends.
- the lifting element has two lateral tool receptacles, into which the upper tools can preferably be inserted or inserted from opposite sides.
- the direction of insertion for inserting the upper tools is therefore transverse (ie horizontal) to the lifting direction of the lifting element.
- the simple assembly and disassembly of the upper tools can reduce downtimes when changing to other cables or crimp contacts.
- the cable assembly device can furthermore have lower tools which can be inserted or used in a similar manner in corresponding receptacles.
- the lifting element can be formed particularly advantageously by a carriage, the carriage being slidably mounted on a machine housing of the cable assembly device by means of a guide arrangement.
- Such slide constructions can be moved in a particularly simple translatory manner.
- the cable assembly device can be designed as a linear machine. If the cable can be transported along a longitudinal axis through the cable assembly device, it can be advantageous if the cutting and stripping unit as well as the first crimping tool and the second crimping tool of the crimping press are arranged one behind the other on the longitudinal axis “in a line”.
- the cutting and stripping unit can be arranged in relation to the conveying direction or longitudinal axis between the first and second crimping tools.
- the cable assembly device can have a motor-driven eccentric shaft with which the lifting element can be moved back and forth between an initial position and a crimp position.
- the lifting element can have a bearing opening in which an end face of the eccentric shaft is received.
- the various operating positions of the cable assembly device can be controlled particularly simply and precisely via the eccentric shaft.
- the cable assembly device can have a servomotor which is connected to the eccentric shaft directly or via a gear.
- the cutting and stripping unit can have upper and lower stripping knives opposite one another for severing the cable and upper and lower stripping knives opposite one another and upper and lower stripping knives opposite one another for stripping the cables, the respective upper and lower separating knives or stripping knives being movable in opposite directions to one another . With the respective paired arrangement of the knives, the cutting operations can be carried out in an efficient manner.
- An upper knife unit having the upper separating knife, the upper first stripping knife and the upper second stripping knife can preferably be rigidly connected to the lifting element.
- This rigid connection can be created, for example, by a screw connection.
- a lower knife unit having the lower separating knife, the lower first stripping knife and the lower second stripping knife can be connected to the lifting element in such a way that the lower knife unit is raised or moved in the opposite direction when the upper knife unit is lowered.
- toothed racks can be assigned to the upper knife unit and the lower knife unit, for example, which are connected to one another via a pinion.
- Cutting and stripping can be further improved if the at least one separating knife, the at least one first stripping knife and the at least one second stripping knife each have V-shaped cutting edges.
- the cable assembly device has a pull-out gripper that can be moved along a longitudinal axis for transporting the input-side cable to a cut-to-length position.
- a pull-out gripper instead of a pull-out gripper, other means of funding, such as a belt drive, are also conceivable.
- the cable assembly device can have two pull-off grippers for stripping, with which the non-stripped parts of the rear or front ends of the cables (in other words, those parts of the cables where the insulation is to remain) can be gripped and moved.
- the trigger grippers can be moved along the longitudinal axis. Separate drives or, if need be, even a common drive can be used to move the trigger grippers.
- a first pull-off gripper assigned to the rear end of the cut-off cable piece and a pull-off gripper assigned to the front end of the remaining cable can form a pull-off unit which is attached to a machine housing of the cable assembly device or to another stationary component of the cable assembly device.
- Two lowerers for vertical positioning of the cable ends in the crimping press are arranged on the lever element, wherein the puller grippers which grip the stripped cable and which move the lever element can be moved between a starting position and a crimping position when the lever element is moved.
- the lowerers as positioning units, which include, for example, vertical plungers, the respective trigger grippers can be moved between a starting position and a crimping position when the lifting element is moved during the crimping process.
- the countersink can cause the desired movement of the gripper, for example, by bumping or other action on the cable grips temporarily holding the gripper.
- the trigger grippers are movably mounted in the trigger unit in the vertical direction.
- the pull-off unit can have a cable guide, preferably assigned to the second pull-off gripper, for the insertion of a cable on the input side.
- the invention could also be directed to a method for operating the crimping station described above.
- the method is characterized in particular by the fact that the at least two of the three and particularly preferably all three of the assembly components described above can be moved vertically into the respective operating positions using a lifting element which can be moved in the vertical direction.
- Figure 1 shows a system for processing cables with a designated 1 cable assembly device for cutting and stripping the cable 7 and for assembling the cable with crimp contacts.
- the device described below can be used to process electrical cables which have a conductor and an insulation enveloping the conductor.
- the device could also be suitable for cables with multiple cable cores.
- the cable 7 is pulled out to the desired length by a straightening unit 36 and by means of a pull-out gripper 9.
- the pull-out gripper 9 is mounted on a linear guide and can be moved back and forth along the x-axis via a belt driven by a motor 47.
- the direction of conveyance for transporting the cable through the cable assembly device 1 is indicated by an arrow f.
- the system also has a length measuring unit 37, with which the cable length can be checked and the pull-out gripper 9 can be controlled while the cable is being pulled out.
- the cable assembly device 1 has a cutting and stripping unit 2 for cutting and stripping the cable 7.
- the cable assembly device comprises a crimping press 3 with which the stripped conductor ends of the cables present after the cable has been cut can be connected to crimp contacts.
- the crimp press 3 has a carriage 6 which can be driven by a motor 46 and which can be moved up and down in the vertical direction z.
- the carriage 6 forms a lifting element by means of which not only the crimping press 3 can be operated but also the cutting and stripping unit can be operated.
- the lever element 6 is slidably mounted on vertical guides 24 on the machine housing 23 of the cable assembly device 1. The lowering movement of the lifting element 6 is indicated by an arrow e.
- the two stripped wire ends are created simultaneously.
- a crimping tool is assigned to each stripped conductor end.
- the two crimping tools of the crimping press 3 are operatively connected to the lifting element 6 such that when the lifting element is lowered in the e-direction, the two opposite conductor ends can be simultaneously equipped with crimp contacts.
- the cutting and stripping unit 2 and the two crimping tools of the crimping press 3 do not have their own drives, but can be moved up and down together with a drive unit.
- the drive unit essentially consists of the motor 46, which is preferably designed as a servo or servomotor, in the present example vertically oriented, an angular gear and an eccentric shaft which is operatively connected to the lifting element 6.
- the drive unit is equipped with regulating and control elements and measuring systems in order to be able to position the lifting element with high precision.
- the drive solution with the eccentric shaft is simple and inexpensive to manufacture, is robust and still ensures precise positioning of the lifting element.
- other drive solutions for vertical movement of the lifting element would also be conceivable. Possible variants would be, for example, spindle drives or toggle levers.
- the cable assembly device 1 is designed as a linear machine.
- the cable 7 can be transported along the longitudinal axis x through the cable assembly device 1; the cutting and stripping unit 2 as well as the first crimping tool 4 and the second crimping tool 5 of the crimping press 3 are arranged one behind the other on the longitudinal axis.
- the cable remains in all operating positions essentially on the longitudinal axis x or at least in a position or orientation parallel to the longitudinal axis.
- the system then has two supply rolls 38, 39 with strips wound thereon lined up crimp contacts.
- the contact strips 54, 55 are guided transversely to the longitudinal axis x to the crimping press 3.
- the direction of supply for the crimp contacts is indicated by the arrows v 1 and v 2 .
- the supply rolls 38, 39 are rotatably mounted in a machine frame of the system.
- the finished cables are placed in a trough-shaped cable tray 52.
- the lifting element 6 is shown partially broken away, so that the eccentric shaft 20 received in the bearing opening 51 can be seen. Furthermore, in Figure 2 the lowerers (see following Figure 3 ) and the trigger unit are made invisible. In Figure 2 the lifting element 6 is in an uppermost position, which corresponds to a starting position.
- the two contact feed units 49, 50 which receive the respective lower tools of the crimping tools 4, 5, are arranged below the lifting element 6.
- the crimp contacts to be processed are components of the contact strips 54 and 55, which can be advanced by means of the contact feed units 49, 50. Feed motors drive the contact feeds 18, 19 each. Such contact feed units are for example from the EP 1 764 884 A1 known.
- the cutting and stripping unit 2 has an upper knife unit 25 equipped with two stripping knives and a separating knife and a similarly designed lower knife unit 26.
- the upper knife unit 25 is fastened to the lifting element 6, the lower knife unit 26 is connected to the lifting element 6 in a gearbox, so that when the upper knife unit 25 is lowered, the lower knife unit 26 is raised at the same time.
- the crimping press 3 has a first crimping tool 4 for connecting the rear end of the stripped, stripped cable piece to a first crimp contact, the first crimp contact originating from the cable strip 54.
- the second crimping tool 5 connects the front end of the stripped remaining cable to a second crimp contact.
- the second crimp contacts are stored on the second supply roll (not shown here) with the second cable strip 54.
- Figure 2 the contact feed units 49, 50 are shown with inserted lower tools, while these are shown in the following Figure 3 for example, for the purpose of changing the tool are shown next to it.
- Figure 3 shows the cable assembly device 1 with a lowered lifting element 6 that the upper tools and lower tools of the crimping press could be dismantled.
- the top tool of the first Crimping tool 4 for crimping the rear end of the cable is designated by the reference number "16" and is also referred to below as the first upper tool.
- the second upper tool 17 is assigned to the front end of the cable.
- the upper tools 16, 17 can each be inserted into corresponding lateral tool holders 21.
- the upper tools can obviously be inserted into the complementary tool holders 21 from opposite sides.
- the two upper tools 16 and 17 are fastened to the vertically movable lever element 6 and are thus designed to be movable. Due to the direct coupling of the upper tools to the lifting element, the upper tools are moved in the same direction and by the same distance as the lifting element.
- the two lower tools ie the first lower tool 18 and the second lower tool 19, can be used in tool holders 22 in a similar manner.
- the tool holders 22 for the lower tools are rigidly connected to a machine table of the device 1.
- the trigger grippers of the trigger unit (not shown here) can be positioned in the vertical direction for the crimping process.
- the puller grippers which grip the stripped cables during the crimping process can be moved between an initial position and a crimped position when the lever element 6 is moved.
- the cable assembly device can have, for example, a manually operated adjustment mechanism (not shown in the figures) with which the punch positions in the upper tools 16, 17 or the vertical position of the tool holders 22 on the lifting element 6 can be adjusted.
- the adjustment of the crimp heights would also be conceivable to be designed automatically and programmably, the cable assembly device for this case having, for example, a motorized adjustment of the tool holder in the lifting element 6 or a motorized lowering or raising of the contact feed units.
- FIG 4 shows a cutting and stripping unit with upper knives 27, 29, 31 and lower knives 28, 30, 32 for cutting and stripping the cable.
- All knives 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32 are designed as so-called V-knives, which have V-shaped cutting edges, which enable clean cutting or cutting for any cable cross-section.
- each knife has V-shaped cutting edges on both sides, so that the knives can be rotated and reinserted when they are worn out.
- the respective upper and lower knives are combined into upper and lower knife units 25, 26.
- the upper knife unit 25 is moved downward when the lifting element (not shown here) is lowered, while at the same time the lower knife unit 26 moves upwards. This closing movement is indicated by arrows s 1 and s 2 .
- the knife units 25, 26 are each attached to racks 43, 44.
- the two racks 43 and 44 are connected to one another via a pinion 40 formed by a toothed wheel.
- the pinion 40 arranged rotatably in the cutter head housing 58 between the two toothed racks 43, 44 engages in the two racks and causes the knives of the lower knife unit 26 to move the same distance, but in the opposite direction, as the upper knives of the upper knife unit 25 .
- Guide rods 45 ensure that the respective knife units are precisely guided in the vertical direction.
- the assembly comprising the upper knife unit 25 with the rack 43 and the guide rod 45 is rigidly connected to the lifting element (for example via a screw connection).
- a cutter head housing 58, on which the pinion 40 is rotatably mounted, is rigidly connected to the (not shown) machine housing of the cable assembly device and is thus designed to be stationary.
- a trigger unit for performing this step is in Figure 5 shown.
- the trigger unit 10 has two trigger grippers 11 and 12 which can be moved back and forth along the longitudinal axis x.
- the grippers 11, 12 each have a gripper head with mutually movable gripper fingers for gripping the cables.
- the gripper fingers could be operated pneumatically, for example.
- the trigger grippers 11, 12 are mounted on a common linear guide and can be moved horizontally can be positioned independently of one another by means of motors 57 and spindles 56.
- the trigger grippers 11, 12 Since the trigger grippers 11, 12 hold the cable ends during crimping, they must be able to be lowered.
- the trigger grippers 11 and 12 are each displaceable to a limited extent in the vertical direction, so that they can be brought into the correct vertical position by the countersink in the crimping process. Thanks to the guide rods 59, precise vertical guidance for the trigger grippers 11, 12 is ensured. With 48 a stop surface for one sinker is designated. Helical compression springs (not shown) cause a pretensioning force and hold the trigger grippers 11, 12 in an upper rest position when they are not lowered.
- the take-off unit 10 then has a cable guide 13 assigned to the second take-off gripper 12 for the insertion of the cable 7 on the input side.
- the cable guide 13 is essentially formed by a through hole.
- FIGS Figures 6 to 13 The method for operating the cable assembly device 1 is shown in FIGS Figures 6 to 13 illustrated.
- Figure 6 shows the cable assembly device 1 in a starting position. In the starting position, the lifting element 6 is in the uppermost vertical position. This starting position corresponds to the top dead center of the eccentric shaft (not shown here).
- the upper and lower knife units 25, 26 of the cutting and stripping unit 2 and the respective crimping tools 4, 5 are each opened to the maximum.
- Out Figure 6 it can also be seen that the leading end of an already processed cable 7 has already been provided with a crimp contact 42 ′ and is held by the second pull-off gripper 12.
- the second pull-off gripper 12 was moved in the x-direction along the longitudinal axis, so that the end of the cable 7 is exposed so far that it can easily be gripped by the pull-out gripper 9.
- This operating position is in Figure 7 shown.
- the pull-out gripper 9 has been moved over the stationary cable end and grips the cable behind the crimp contact ( Fig. 7 ). Now the cable is pulled to the desired length in the axial direction x by moving the pull-out gripper in the conveying direction indicated by arrow f. With the example in Figure 1 linear measuring system shown, this linear movement can be controlled.
- the cable assembly device 1 after completion of the pull-out movement is in Figure 8 shown.
- the two trigger grippers 11 and 12 close.
- the lifting element 6 is then moved down a first distance Move into a disconnected position (arrow e), in which the cable is cut with the separating knives 27, 28 of the cutting and stripping unit 2.
- the cable assembly device 1 with the lifting element 6 shows in this disconnected position Figure 9 . More details are out Figure 14 removable.
- a length of cable, designated 7 ' is produced.
- the pull-out grippers 11, 12 remain in the closed position and hold the respective cables, ie the cable section 7 'and the remaining cable 7 shortened by this cable section.
- the two trigger grippers 11, 12 move along the longitudinal axis x into a horizontal stripping position until the desired stripping lengths have been reached for both cable ends. As soon as the trigger grippers 11, 12 are positioned in the correct horizontal stripping position, the lifting element 6 can be lowered further by a short distance which corresponds to the incision depth for grading. This working position is in Figure 10 shown. As from the Figure 10 corresponding detail presentation according to Figure 15 shows, the stripping knives 29, 30 and 31, 32 should cut the insulation only to such an extent that they do not touch the strands or the conductors of the cables. The stripping process is then ended by pulling off the cut insulation from the cable ends. This is carried out using the trigger grippers 11, 12.
- the eccentric shaft In this position, the eccentric shaft is in or at least in the vicinity of the bottom dead center position of the eccentric shaft.
- the cable ends are moved into the correct vertical position, which is done with the help of the countersink (not shown here).
- the lifting element 6 moves back into the starting position ( Fig. 13 ).
- the trigger grippers 11, 12 are guided vertically back into the starting position by spring action.
- the Figures 14 and 15 show greatly enlarged sections of the cable assembly device according to the Figures 9 and 10th .
- the cutting and stripping unit 2 has opposite upper and lower separating knives 27 and 28 for severing the cable 7.
- the opposite upper and lower first stripping knives 29, 30 are provided for stripping the cable piece 7 'cut to length by means of the separating knife ( Fig. 15 ).
- the opposing upper and lower second stripping knives 31, 32 are assigned to the remaining cable 7. How out Figure 14 shows, the stripping knives 29, 30 and 31, 32 do not touch the cables after the severing process. After the deflected cable parts have been moved away from each other to the desired stripping length, the cable insulation can be cut with the stripping knives.
- the knife units 25 and 26 are moved in opposite directions in the s 1 or s 2 direction to the stripping position. This movement can be carried out precisely with the help of the eccentric shaft, so that it is ensured that the stripping knives do not touch the conductor of the cable.
- the trailing cable could first be crimped by first moving the leading length of the cable back by means of the pull-off gripper so that the end of the trailing cable lies outside the effective range of the crimping tool.
- the finished cable piece with the rear end equipped with the crimp contact could then be put down.
- the not yet crimped, leading cable end could be finished.
- the two contact feed units would have to be programmed in such a way that the crimp contacts would only be inserted immediately before crimping, since one crimping tool would have to carry out an idle stroke.
- Figure 16 shows an arrangement with a cable assembly device 1, which has other conveying means for feeding the cable 7 to the cable assembly device.
- the present arrangement has a belt drive 59.
- the maximum possible cable length would no longer be restricted by the path of the pull-out gripper. If the tape drive is placed close to the drive unit, even a pull gripper could be omitted because the pull movement for the front cable end of the remaining cable from the tape drive could be executed.
- a cable assembly device has been described in which a cable is fed and processed. Basically, it would also be conceivable to process several cables simultaneously or in parallel with a similar, only slightly modified cable assembly device.
- the crimping tools could be designed such that, for example, two or more crimp contacts are crimped with one stroke. In this case, the cutting and stripping unit would have a corresponding number of knives.
