Definitions
- the invention relates to a seat assembly for physically handicapped persons, in particular a wheelchair or stroller, having a seat surface and a footrest, which is pivotally mounted to the seat surface and in the region of the center of the front edge of the seat, and with an abduction wedge in the center of the front edge of the seat.
- the seat may be part of a seat shell, which further comprises a pivotable to the seat backrest.
- the seat can also be integrated with the footrest as a mounting unit in the frame of a seat assembly (e.g., wheelchair frame), the frame being provided with a backrest.
- a seat assembly with a seat shell, which pivotally comprises a seat surface and a backrest to each other, is from the European patent EP 0 911 008 B1 the applicant.
- the wheelchair described here or the seat arrangement described here is used in particular to accommodate patients suffering from spastic convulsions. In these patients, uncontrolled impulses are given to the muscles, which lead to a spasmodic muscle tension, which generally causes a body extension. That is, the seated person unintentionally presses their muscles so that the hip joints and knee joints are pushed. In order to avoid that the patient falls out of the seat shell of the seat assembly, he is usually fixed with fastening means, which include, for example, a lap belt or pelvic strap to the seat pan.
- the in the EP 0 911 008 B1 described arrangement solves these problems by proposing that the seat and backrest are freely pivotally connected to each other, wherein a tensioning device is provided which generates the seat and the backrest in the bent seat position holding each other clamping force, and that the footrest freely pivoted to the Seat is articulated, wherein a tensioning device is provided, which generates a the footrest in the bent seat position to the seat holding clamping force.
- a linear guide is attached to the frame of the chassis below the seat, on the displaceable component, the seat is pivotally articulated.
- the seat of the seat shell has side cheeks in which aligned bores are arranged. These are penetrated by pivot pins, on each of which one of two lateral struts of the footrest is pivotally mounted.
- a tension spring pulls at least one strut of theticianstüze in the sitting position bent to the seat.

- the footrest on two lateral struts. These are pivotally connected to the side of the seat arranged support struts.
- the object of the present invention is to provide a wheelchair or a similar seating arrangement for physically disabled persons, the mounting for the footrest, with a simple construction, ensuring pivoting about the physiological pivots.
- the footrest By attaching the footrest in the middle of the front edge of the seat ensures that the pivot axis of the footrest is in close proximity to the knee joints.
- an abduction wedge is provided which spreads the legs of the patient seated in the seat slightly apart.
- the footrest is articulated so that the patient's knees are immediately adjacent to the pivot point of the footrest.
- the mechanical pivot points of the footrest coincide with the mechanical pivot points of the knee joints.
- only one joint is to be provided in the case of a central linkage of the footrest and not two joints which are outside the seat shell. As a result, the structure can be simplified structurally.
- the abduction wedge is lowerable.
- the abduction wedge can be lowered downwards. In the lowered position, the abduction wedge is not more between the knees of the patient. As a result, the patient can be put into the seat shell more simply and be strapped there.
- a support arm may be arranged, the free end having a pivot axis for the footrest.
- the support arm thus lies between the knees of a person seated in the seat.
- it can extend obliquely upwards from the front edge of the seat so that the pivot axis lies in the region of the pivot axis of the knee joints of the patient being received.
- a pivoting of the footrest to the physiological pivot points of the knee is thereby ensured.
- the part of the footrest and the support arm located between the knees may be provided with a padded cover forming an abduction wedge.
- This abduction wedge ensures that the knees are slightly pushed apart and in the hip joints a certain spread is achieved. As a result, misalignments of the hip joint can be avoided.
- the remote from the pivot axis of the end of the support arm may be tiltably attached to the seat, so that the support arm can be tilted down.
- This tilt function is advantageous when the patient is seated in the seat pan. In the tilted down position, the support arm and the abduction wedge covering it are no longer between the patient's knees. As a result, the patient can be put into the seat shell more simply and be strapped there. Only when the patient is in the proper sitting position, the support arm with the abduction wedge can be tilted back up so that the Abdu Vietnameseskeil lies between the knees of the patient.
- a releasable locking device is preferably provided which locks the support arm in its upper position, in which the Pivot axis located between the knees of the patient. To tilt down the Abdu Vietnameseskeil, the locking device is released.
- a pivot arm on which the footrest is attached may further be attached to the support arm, a pivot arm on which the footrest is attached.

The seat may be part of a seat shell, which further comprises a pivotable to the seat backrest. However, the seat can also be integrated with the footrest as a mounting unit in the frame of a seat assembly (e.g., wheelchair frame), the frame being provided with a backrest.
Diese Aufhabe wird durch Anspruch 1 gelöstThe object of the present invention is to provide a wheelchair or a similar seating arrangement for physically disabled persons, the mounting for the footrest, with a simple construction, ensuring pivoting about the physiological pivots. This Aufhabe is solved by claim 1
By attaching the footrest in the middle of the front edge of the seat ensures that the pivot axis of the footrest is in close proximity to the knee joints. In the middle of the front edge of the seat an abduction wedge is provided which spreads the legs of the patient seated in the seat slightly apart. Here, the footrest is articulated so that the patient's knees are immediately adjacent to the pivot point of the footrest. The mechanical pivot points of the footrest coincide with the mechanical pivot points of the knee joints. In addition, only one joint is to be provided in the case of a central linkage of the footrest and not two joints which are outside the seat shell. As a result, the structure can be simplified structurally.
In a preferred embodiment, the abduction wedge is lowerable. The abduction wedge can be lowered downwards. In the lowered position, the abduction wedge is not more between the knees of the patient. As a result, the patient can be put into the seat shell more simply and be strapped there.
In practice, in the middle of the front edge of the seat, a support arm may be arranged, the free end having a pivot axis for the footrest. The support arm thus lies between the knees of a person seated in the seat. In practice, it can extend obliquely upwards from the front edge of the seat so that the pivot axis lies in the region of the pivot axis of the knee joints of the patient being received. A pivoting of the footrest to the physiological pivot points of the knee is thereby ensured. As a result, when the footrest pivots due to a stretching movement of the muscles of the patient being picked up, no forces act on the knee joints which could stress the joints.
In practice, the part of the footrest and the support arm located between the knees may be provided with a padded cover forming an abduction wedge. This abduction wedge ensures that the knees are slightly pushed apart and in the hip joints a certain spread is achieved. As a result, misalignments of the hip joint can be avoided.
The remote from the pivot axis of the end of the support arm may be tiltably attached to the seat, so that the support arm can be tilted down. This tilt function is advantageous when the patient is seated in the seat pan. In the tilted down position, the support arm and the abduction wedge covering it are no longer between the patient's knees. As a result, the patient can be put into the seat shell more simply and be strapped there. Only when the patient is in the proper sitting position, the support arm with the abduction wedge can be tilted back up so that the Abduktionskeil lies between the knees of the patient. For tilting the support arm, a releasable locking device is preferably provided which locks the support arm in its upper position, in which the Pivot axis located between the knees of the patient. To tilt down the Abduktionskeil, the locking device is released.
In practice, may further be attached to the support arm, a pivot arm on which the footrest is attached. The support arm with pivot axis and swivel arm forms in this way a unit that can be replaced if damaged. It is also possible to combine different footrests with a swivel axis in order to adapt the wheelchair to the size and the physiological requirements of the patient to be photographed.
The support arm may have two mutually parallel legs, between which the pivot arm is arranged. In this case, a pivot pin projecting holes aligned in the support arm, in particular in the two legs of the support arm, and in the pivot arm.
The footrest has a footplate on which the patient sitting in the wheelchair puts his feet. Preferably, the geometry of the support arm and pivot arm is selected such that the footplate of the footrest rests on the floor when the abduction wedge moves downwards. A person to be included in the wheelchair can easily be placed in the wheelchair in this way and, if it can walk, walk almost at ground level on the foot plate and then sit in the seat, without being disturbed by the upstanding Abduktionskeil. This entry aid is a considerable relief for the patient.
