Definitions
- the invention is in the field of continuous casting of metal slabs, in particular steel. More precisely, it relates to the controlled electromagnetic stirring of still molten metal in the solidification well by means of polyphase inductors with a sliding magnetic field coaxially housed in rollers for supporting and guiding the secondary cooling zone of the continuous casting machine, rolls made hollow for this purpose.
- rollers-rollers The first achievements of such rollers, known as “brewers-rollers", already date from the beginning of the years 1970 (FR 2 187 467 ).
- the inductor is of the three-phase or two-phase type, with one or more pairs of magnetic poles per phase of the external power supply to which its connection means connects it, and that it therefore generates a sliding mobile magnetic field.
- the sliding speed of the field depends on the polar pitch of the inductor (a parameter fixed by construction) and the frequency of the electric current which feeds it and which, it is the variable of adjustment of this speed.
- the application of the stirring rollers to a continuous slab casting machine schematically involves subjecting the slab, in one or more zones of the casting machine located downstream of the mold, to one or more moving magnetic fields sliding horizontally along the width of the slab, each in a certain direction.
- the still liquid portion of the molten metal located in the core of the slab being The cooling is thus driven in a direction and a direction identical to those of the sliding of the magnetic field acting on it.
- the stirring rollers may be arranged in groups, facing each other on either side of the large faces of the slab at the same level in height (see FIG. Fig. 1 coming from FR 2,185,467 above), or superimposed on the same side of the slab, or distributed on both sides of the slab on different stages of the machine, etc ...
- This central bearing marks the physical separation of the inductor in two portions aligned and distant from each other, on either side of the bearing central, thus providing a "dead” inductive zone between them.
- the latter thus constitutes a geographical discontinuity of the sliding of the magnetic field along the axis of the roll all the more important, so penalizing for the stirring, that the dimension of the central landing is large, but this technology of rollers should allow to sink slabs extra large without risk of deformation thereof under the effect of the ferrostatic pressure.
- the current brewers-brewers do not allow: by their design, they only know metal circulation loops occupying the entire width of the slab, so with vertical branches that are only lateral, long and against small faces.
- stirrer rollers conventionally have diameters of 30 cm and more.
- today more and more often used rollers of smaller diameter can be easily used together with support rollers of small diameter which have the advantage of being more numerous on the same height portion of the machine and, therefore, better fulfill their function.
- the continuous casting machines of steel slabs are designed to cast products whose width is typically between 0.9 and 1.6 m, sometimes up to 2.0 m.
- the current trend is to have machines that can run products of greater width, for example 2.4 m. This would imply to have correlatively longer brewers rollers (say 2.5 m and more to fix the ideas).
- the present invention proposes to achieve this by converting a conventional brewer roll into a "double brewer” roll, or, otherwise, into a "split brewer roll”.
- the two inductors are identical in size, the desired recovery of the molten metal to the mold will naturally locate just in the middle of the large faces.
- the desired homogenization of the molten metal within the liquid well in the slab can be obtained in the same way if the two inductors are adjusted to produce magnetic fields sliding in the slab. divergent opposite directions, that is to say moving away from each other since the median junction of the inductors. The central main circulation of the liquid metal will then descend towards and to the junction point of the two inductors.
- half-roll includes both the case where the two aligned rings constituting the brewer-roll as a whole are of equal lengths, that the case where they are of different lengths for stated reasons. further.
- Each half-roll brewer has its own power supply terminals for feeding the polyphase inductor sliding magnetic field it encloses, preferably grouped all at the end of the relevant half-roll facing outward of the machine.
- the circulation of the cooling fluid is common to the two half-rolls, and the means which ensure the circulation of the fluid in each half-roll are connected to each other inside the central support bearing.
- tubular divided brewing roll 1 is fixed to a rigid support 2 integrated in the frame of the continuous casting machine of continuous casting slabs and enclosing the usual support and guide rollers.
- the slab 3 progresses perpendicularly to the plane of the figures from the mold (not shown) towards the bottom of the casting machine, and the divided stirring roll 1 covers the entire width of the slab while remaining in rolling contact with the surface of the slab. one of its large faces by a generatrix of the element in axial rotation which constitutes it.
- This rotating element is formed by two aligned cylindrical shells 6 and 12 spaced apart from each other, thus constituting two half brewing rollers 4 and 5 tubular, contiguous and aligned, and of equal length in the example shown.
- Three rolling bearings fixed to the support 2 ensure alignment and axial rotation of these two half-rollers: two end bearings, left 9 and right 15, and an intermediate bearing 10, in central position here, facing the middle of the slab 3.
- Each half roll 4 or 5 incorporates a polyphase linear inductor (respectively 40 and 50), mounted coaxially with it, capable of generating a longitudinal sliding magnetic field.
- the left half roll 4 contains the polyphase inductor 40 on the left; the right half-roll 5 contains the right-hand polyphase inductor 50.
- the cylindrical shell 6, constituting the left half brewing roll 4, is held at its ends by two rockets, of the same frustoconical general shape, a left rocket 7 and a right rocket 8.
- Each rocket is removably mounted at one end of the ferrule by its large base 7a, 8a, the small base 7b, 8b being itself engaged in an end bearing bearing, respectively left 9 and intermediate 10, integral with the support 2 of the rigid chassis of the casting machine .
- these rolling bearings 9 and 10 allow the brew roller 4 to rotate freely about its longitudinal axis B under the effect of the rolling contact of its ferrule 6 with the slab 3 progressing towards the lower part of the machine continuous casting.
- the sliding magnetic field inductor 40 centered in the ferrule 6 and occupying almost all the available volume inside the roll (except for an annular space 60 which distances it from a few mm, say 4 or 5 mm, the ferrule to allow the circulation of cooling water) is itself blocked in rotation.
- left terminal extensions 40a and 40b of reduced diameter relative to that of the inductor, constitute support pins that come to rest, one in a wedge flange 11, placed outside bearing left 9, so after having crossed this landing by the interior of the small base 7b of the rocket 7, and, the other, after have likewise crossed the small base 8b of the right rocket 8, in the intermediate bearing 10 to come forward on the opposite extension, coming from the right inductor 50, by a male-female coupling with flutes (no represented), therefore removable by simple translation.
- the right half brewer roller 5 comprises a cylindrical shell 12 engaged between two rockets, left 13 and right 14 (similar to the rockets 7 and 8) by their respective large bases 13a and 14a.
- the small base 14b of the right-hand rocket 14 is inserted into a right-end bearing bearing 15 secured to the support 2, and the small base 13b of the left-hand rocket 13 is inserted into the central intermediate-bearing bearing 10.
- Each half-brewer roller 4, 5 has its own electrical circuit ensuring the power supply of its inductor.
- the left half-brewer roller 4 thus comprises, mounted at the end of the end bearing 9, a panel 16 with two pairs of connection terminals 16 'and 16 ", having two pairs of terminals for connection to the electrical network of the coils. of phases of the inductor 40.
- the polyphase linear inductor implemented by the invention requires as many pairs of connection terminals as phases of its power supply: two pairs for a two-phase, three pairs for a three-phase, being nevertheless emphasized that in the case of a "delta" electrical mounting of the inductor, its number of terminals will be reduced by one.
- an inductor of this type is schematically constituted by an alternating series of coils 41, 51 and apparent circular magnetic poles 42, 52 coming from the internal magnetic framework of the inductor, which also serves as a support for winding for the windings in the receiving spaces between two contiguous magnetic poles. Only from this ordered set are the wires or cables of electrical connection 41a, 41b; 51a, 51b that come out and enter from each series of coils connected to each other in series-opposition (thus connected to the same phase), and run on the surface to reach the nearest terminals of the connection panel .
- the number of windings connected in series-opposition is four or eight, either having two or four pole steps over the active length of the inductor.
- connection terminal board at each of its ends, one receiving the input wires of the interconnected phase windings, the other receiving the leads.
- connection panels 16 and 17 it is preferable not to differentiate the input and output terminals at the connection panels 16 and 17, but to group within the same panel all the connection terminals relating to a and only one of the two inductors and dedicate a given panel to the inductor that is closest to him.
- the right half brewer roll 5 comprises, at the right end of the assembly, a connection panel 17 having two pairs of terminals 17 'and 17 ", similar to the one 16, which is dedicated to the left half brewing roll. 4, is on the left side of the installation.
- the son link 41a, 41b; 51a, 51b inductors are of course insulated to join them by passing through the water boxes, as is the case here.
- the divided baffle roll 1 makes it possible to avoid deformations, in particular an arrow, which would inevitably occur in the case of slabs 3.
- the absence of the central bearing 10. This allows these deformations to be canceled by providing each constituent brewing roll of the assembly with a relatively small length, comparable to or even lower than that of conventional brewing rollers used on continuous slab casting machines.
- usual widths up to 2m and more commonly 1600mm).
- connection wires of the windings of one to the phases of the power supply will all be directed preferably to an electrical connection panel present at one end of the roller and the connecting wires of the second inductor all directed towards each other. connection panel mounted at the other end.
- the connecting wires 45a, 45b of the left inductor 45 are directed to the nearest panel 16 mounted on the left rolling bearing 9
- the connecting wires 55a, 55b of the right inductor 55 are directed to the nearest panel 17 mounted on the right rolling bearing 15.
- Intermediate-stage split brewing rollers according to the invention can be integrated without particular difficulties to a segment of the structure of the casting machine which also conventionally carries other usual rollers for supporting and guiding the slab. It should be noted that, even in the case of very wide slabs, the latter they can continue to be made in one piece, because their rigidity is greater than that of brewers of equivalent length because they do not have to integrate inductors.
- brewing rollers divided into two half-rolls, such as 4 and 5, which have a ferrule length of 1150 mm each, with an intermediate rolling bearing approximately 200 mm wide.
- the diameter of the stirrer rollers 4, 5 can be him, of the order of 230 mm.
- the lengths of the two rings are unequal. Indeed, the absence of contact between the central bearing and the slab that the portion of the slab passing opposite this bearing is not cooled. Also, providing divided brewing rollers having contiguous stirring rollers unequal length by arranging their intermediate bearing shifted between two successive divided brewing rollers will ensure that it is not always the same portion of the width of the slab which be concerned by this lack of cooling. This will improve the homogeneity of the cooling of the slab if necessary.
- pairs 70a and 70b placed at the same level on the metallurgical height, opposite one another, on both sides of the large faces of the casting slab.
- the slab 3 is first formed in a continuous casting mold 75 by means of a submerged nozzle 76 centered on the casting axis A and supplying the molten metal to the mold by side outlet openings.
- the slab leaves the mold to reach, below, the zone of the secondary cooling while progressing towards the bottom of the machine of casting at a controlled speed so as to maintain at a controlled level the height position of the liquid meniscus 77 within the mold. It is in this zone of the secondary cooling of the casting machine that the holding and guiding rollers are located, including the two divided brewing rollers 70a and 70b of the invention.
