Eachpanel 4 has an arcuate shape, curving through 120°.Fig. 6 shows theside wall panel 4 which comprises acurved panel 15 with a number of spaced-apart circumferential channel-section reinforcing ribs 16. Anendless flange 18 extends around a periphery of thepanel 15 for connection by fasteners to adjacentside wall panels wall panels 6 upon assembly of the tank 1. - It will be noted that a
foot element 19 projects outwardly from thepanel 15 and is integrally formed therewith extending outwardly beyond theconnector flange 18 on theside wall panel 4. When theside wall panel 4 is used on an underside of thebody 2, as shown inFigs. 1 and5 , thefoot elements 19 on the two lowermostside wall panels 4 act as feet to support the tank 1. As can been seen inFig. 4 alowermost support face 20 of eachfoot 19 extends below a lowermost edge of aflange 24 on eachend wall panel 6. Also, a cylindricalblind slot 26 is provided in thepanel 15, being recessed into thepanel 15 for reception of a pipe, such as thepipe 27 shown inFig. 1 . An opening for through passage of thepipe 27 is simply cut through aninner end 28 of theslot 26 to mount thepipe 27 in theslot 26. -
Fig. 5 shows a number of theside wall panels 4 joined together to form a partially assembled tank 1.Flanges 18 of adjacentside wall panels 4 overlap and are bolted together with suitable sealing therebetween. - Referring in particular to
Figs. 1 ,2 and4 , eachend wall panel 6 has a circulardomed body 30 with a peripheral mountingflange 24 extending around an inner circumferential edge of thebody 30 for overlap with and attachment to the associated mountingflanges 18 on theside wall panels flange 24 extends inwardly sufficiently so that if desired theend wall panel 6 can be reversed with thedome 30 extending into the tank 1 so that the tank 1 may be mounted in an upright orientation. -
Pipe mounting elements 32 project outwardly of thebody 30 and present a generallyvertical face 34 for attachment of inlet and outlet pipes (not shown).Blind pilot holes 36 are provided in saidface 34 to act as pilot holes for drilling through saidface 34 for reception and mounting of the inlet/outlet pipes. -

It will be noted also thatsupport ribs 42 are provided on thedivider wall 10 for supporting a bacteria media and also provide added strength to thedivider wall 10. The peripheral mountingflange 40 may conveniently locate in the inwardly facingchannel 43 of the channel-section ribs 16 in theside wall panels divider walls 10 within the tank 1.Fig. 13 shows thedivider walls 10 mounted within the tank 1. -
Fig. 9 shows theside wall panel 5 incorporating theturret 7. Theside wall panel 5 has a curvedinner panel 45. This is similar in curvature to theside wall panels 4 described previously. An endless mountingflange 48 extends around a periphery of thepanel 5 for connection by fasteners to the adjacentside wall panels wall panels 6. A generallyrectangular turret body 50 projects upwardly from theinner panel 45. Side walls of theturret body 50 taper inwardly and upwardly from theinner panel 45. This allows nested stacking of a number of theside wall panels 5 withturret 7 as shown inFig. 14 . An opening at a top 51 of theturret body 50 is closed by anaccess hatch 52. -
Fig. 12 shows theside wall panel 8. This is associated with theside wall panel 5 which incorporates theaccess turret 7. In some cases theseside wall panels side wall panel 8 comprises acurved panel 25 with a number of spaced-apartcircumferential support ribs 16. Anendless flange 18 extends around a periphery of thepanel 25 for connection by fasteners to adjacentside wall panels wall panel 6 upon assembly of the tank 1. -
Fig. 14 shows how components for a number of tanks can be conveniently nested together and stored on a container 54 for transport. In this case sufficient components for forming 34 tanks can be fitted in a single 40 foot container 54. Thus it will be appreciated that transport costs for the tanks 1 can be reduced by virtue of the modular knock-down construction of the tanks 1. - It will also be appreciated that if portion of the tank 1 becomes damaged it is only necessary to replace the damaged portion of the tank 1. This is readily easily achieved at minimum cost as the whole tank 1 does not have to be replaced, merely the damaged component.
- The tank system of the invention has a number of advantages as follows:
- 1. Modularity - it is relatively easy to assemble the tanks in a range of sizes to suit particular requirements.
- 2. Easy repair - any damaged portion of the tank can be removed and replaced on site without having to replace the whole tank.
- 3. Easy extension - the size of the tank can be increased relatively easily if required by the addition of new modular sections if the capacity requirement increases, again without having to remove the old tank and supply a whole new tank.
- 4. The tank can be mounted in either a horizontal or a vertical orientation due to the reversible end covers.
- 5. The thickness of the wall panels can be adjusted to suit the depth at which the tank is to be located in the ground and/or alter the strength for particular applications.
- 6. The turret height is easily adjustable.
- 7. Transport of tank panels in flat configuration, or partially assembled tank sections for full assembly on site is relatively easy, cheap and efficient.
- 8. The internal divider walls are adjustable to split the interior of the tank into sections of desired size.
-
