Stockings are available for a variety of uses, for which they are usually adjusted accordingly. In a generic stocking, in which a basic thread is used with mercerized cotton, it is a so-called business stocking. Business stockings are recognizable by their elegant appearance, are mostly in dark shades and are usually worn on suits.

Mercerisation is a cotton finishing process in which the cotton is exposed to concentrated caustic soda under the action of tension. In this case, the fibers swell, the cross section changes from kidney-shaped to round and the length of the fibers changes by up to 25%. These structural changes result in silk-like, wash-resistant gloss, better dyeability, higher strength and better dimensional stability. The object of the present invention is to develop a generic knitted sock in such a way that it provides an elegant appearance for the wearer in addition to its known effects at least one more positive, especially health-promoting effect.

This object is achieved by a knitted stocking with the features of claim 1.

The present invention is based on the finding that a particularly elegant, high-quality appearance results when mercerized cotton is used to knit the stocking. This, in addition to its smooth surface unlike combed cotton, which is supple and soft, has the property of being particularly smooth and stiff.
